A bunch of
acting students break into their university
late one night to initiate a girl through their usual
cruel hazing, but something goes wrong and the girl
ends up dead. The following night the students find
themselves trapped inside the school with a serial
killer on the loose, killing anyone who crosses his
path. Who could it be?

From the people that brought us Terror At Baxter U
comes Acts Of Death (at Baxter U). Now, I haven't
actually seen Terror At Baxter U so I don't know if
the two movies are connected, especially considering
that the original title for this movie was "The Final
Curtain" which sounds an awful lot like a sequel to
me. Either way, Acts Of Death stands on its own two
legs and doesn't give one the impression that its a
sequel... errr... I'm rambling, let's get on with it.
Acts Of Death has a very unoriginal concept if you ask
me. Seriously, how many college slasher flicks have we
not seen throughout the past couple of years where a
bunch of students find themselves trapped inside a
theatre with a serial killer on the loose? Though, my
mind was instantly drawn to "Horror 101" as that's
the movie that it has most in common with. It's low
budget, it's fairly tame, and the story isn't interesting
enough for one and a half hour. A bunch of students
who get picked off one by one in a school at night
due to a prank gone wrong? Sounds like any other
slasher movie to me.
What was strange to me was that when the actors acted
on stage, they were severely better actors than they
were when they were playing their characters. I guess
they may be better at theatre than movies. The directing
is below average but you could really tell that Jeff
Burton had put his entire soul into making this movie.
After having his previous three movies get released by
Brain Damage Films, I'm sure he's very proud to have
this movie released by another increasingly crappy
studio - Lions Gate. I know I may be coming down a bit
hard on Lions Gate but let's face it - they really are
the new Artisan in every way.
I don't really have much to say about this movie to
be honest with you. It's a standard slasher movie and
not a very good one at that. Sure, a lot of effort
probably went into making this but I wish that they
had dared to be a little more creative when they
finally had a decent budget to work with. I'm just
happy that it didn't turn out to be as awful as Dead
Clowns was - man that movie was a drag.

A body split in half, a knife through ones head, a
couple of impalements and some melted skin.

Repetitive and plain score which didn't do much for
the movie in terms of atmosphere.

Acts Of Death isn't horrible, it's just very standard.
It's another one of those by-the-numbers slasher flicks
that we've grown so sick of by now and I'm sure that
Lions Gate only picked this movie up due to some
Hostel-like torture scenes. Nothing special about this
movie at all so don't bother.
