It's the day of Karen's communion and her sister Alice is
very jealous of all the attention that Karen is getting
from everyone. But when it's time for the communion, Karen
never shows up, instead she's soon found dead. Everyone
seems to blame Alice but her mother refuses to believe
that it's her own daughter who have committed this terrible
crime. Soon enough, more people start turning up dead,
but is it really Alice killing off everyone?

Alice Sweet Alice might be one of the first US whodunit
slasher flicks where the killer wears a mask, and man is
this an ingenious one or what. While movies like Halloween
and Friday the 13th got cult status and a whole bunch of
sequels, Alice Sweet Alice kind of got forgotten with time
which is a shame really as this one is almost just as
good as both of them. This isn't anything like F13th or
Halloween though, the movie plays on entirely different
aspects. The main focus lies on Alice who at the surface
just seems like any other jealous sister but slowly
becomes more and more strange. Is she really psychotic
enough to kill people or is someone trying to frame her?

What impressed me most by this movie was probably the
acting. I mean, it's not that it's just generally very
good, but these actors sometime feel like they were
originally cast for a silent movie since they express
such strong emotions. This might sound hilarious to you
but considering the circumstances of what's going on
in the movie, exaggerated feelings are very effective
to make us root more for the characters. The directing
is also very slick and I think that's what makes this
movie stand out from the rest. There's just something
special about it that I can't put my finger on.

Alice Sweet Alice isn't your average slasher flick as it
will force you to guess until the very end of the movie.
It's not predictable in any way and for once it's
actually a shame that no one has tried to copy the
concept, as I love this movie with all of my heart. If
there would be a remake of this, I have no doubts that
it wouldn't even be close to as good as this flick as
you simply can't top an ingenious slasher flick like
this. Don't miss this one!

We get some knife stabbings but that's really everything
that's even remotely gory.

I love the theme melody and the piano and violin music is
very effective. I have no negative remarks what so ever.

Alice Sweet Alice is a slasher flick that deserves more
cult status than it has. It's one of the best slashers
from the late 70s -early 80s and if you still haven't
seen this brilliant slasher flick, I highly recommend
that you check it out as soon as you can.
