Deadly creatures of the dark are taking over the
world and it's up to paranormal detective Edward
to try to save the human species along with his
girlfriend and a military troop. What they don't
know is that there's an entire world beneath them
of these creatures. Will they be able to stop
them or is it already too late?

Alone In The Dark has in the run of one weekend
gotten some of the worst reviews ever, critics
call it the worst film of the decade. I would like
to disagree. Alone In The Dark provides what it
promises in the trailer. Kickass action scenes,
cool cgi-creatures and hot Tara Reid. Seriously,
who cares if she can't act? Would the movie be
even half as entertaining without her in it? A
good question for all male critics out there.
Most critics went in knowing that they'd give it
a bad review, just because of the fact that
director Uwe Boll's last film, House Of The Dead
was absolute rubbish. Now, there's a film that
could compete on the worst of the decade chart,
but honestly, even if this has similarities to
House, I still think that this was a big step in
the right direction and I really don't think it
deserved all the bad reviews that it's gotten.
This is one hell of an action movie and even if
it doesn't work too well on the horror level it
will still keep you interested, even if some
dialogues and scenes will make you giggle a
little but I blame that on the poor performances
that Tara Reid and Christian Slater give us.
The only one giving us a really good performance
in here is Stephen Dorff and I hope critics are
satisfied now that they've probably destroyed
his future career, he starred in a couple of bad
flicks lately, FearDotCom comes to mind and I
doubt it with all the negative feedback this
movie's gotten that any big company will dare to
sign him onto a big film again for quite a while.
The movie is, as most of you know, based on a
videogame. You can almost tell by the movie
actually but the thing is, the videogame and
the movie is very different from each other and
I know most people would agree with me on that.
However, I do not consider that a bad thing.
I've played the game and without all the action
scenes added in this movie, the movie would
not have survived a second. If it would have
been true to the videogame it would probably
have bored the audience to death. Instead, we
can laugh, jump occasionally and sit back and
enjoy the cool action scenes. If there's one
thing Uwe Boll does know, it's how to direct
a good and explosive action scene. I will have
to agree that this is more of a DTV movie than
a theatrical movie though since I don't think
that this is a flick for the mainstream
audience. It's one for those who can enjoy
relaxing their brains for a while, it's not
a complex story.
Alone In The Dark may not be a masterpiece but
hell, I enjoyed it. I thought it was one of the
best alien horror flicks I've seen in a while.
The occasional plot hole didn't bother me too
much. If you decide to give this one a chance,
remember, it's not a movie which is trying to
get Oscars, it's a movie made by a horror fan
for the action horror fans so give it some
credit and try to enjoy it rather than focusing
on it's flaws. Some critics need to grow up and
realize that movies can be entertaining without
having to have a story like "Schindlers List".
For crying out loud, it's an action horror flick
about giant monsters, what can you expect?

We get a couple of gory impalements, a chick gets
her head split in two parts and there are also
some gory shoot-outs.

Uwe decided to drop the German techno rock which
I kind of really dug in House Of The Dead but
the soundtrack is still pretty explosive and
loud... and loud is good!

Give this one a chance, even if it's not the
best flick ever made, this is kick-ass
entertainment and I promise that whoever you
ask, no one will say that they were bored
while watching the film, they might not have
liked it, but being bored while watching it
would be an impossibility unless you're an
old fart who doesn't know the meaning of the
word entertainment. Over and out.
