Six
friends are brought back together after one
of their friends die. They all graduated two
years ago and now they're headed into the
wild jungles of Thailand to honour their dead
friend. Unfortunately, there's someone there
waiting for them, waiting to take out a revenge
on them for something they did in their school days.

That plot description of mine sure make this sound
like a slasher flick doesn't it? Well it's not.
Two years ago I saw a quite bad horror flick
about witch-craft and gruesome revenge called
"Art Of The Devil", and I wasn't too excited when
I heard that a sequel was coming out since I
never even made it to the end of the first movie.
Luckily, Art Of The Devil 2 has no connection
to the first movie at all except for the concept,
and with those kick-ass covers popping up all
over the net, how could I not check this flick out?
Granted, this sequel is a whole lot better than
the first movie in every possible aspect. The
story is much more entertaining, the special
effects are much better, the gore is much more
gruesome and the budget over-all looks like it
was much higher. But even though all other horror
reviewers are loving this movie, I still didn't
think it was that special.
The story is very generic and unoriginal, and just
like with "Hostel", the gore is definitely over-
hyped. Sure, it is gory and some scenes are hard
to stomach but there is a quite low body count
which made me feel ripped off considering how
awesome the posters were.
Also, the first half of the movie is very hard
to make it through since most of it is in sepia
and tells us the story of what the friends went
through in school. This is a story which we have
seen a hundred times before and that we really
didn't need to see again. They could very well
have cut that first half of the movie down to
15 minutes or so and spent more time on the gore
scenes - which really are the sole reason to
why this attracted such a huge audience over in
Thailand. Overall I have to say that I had higher
expectations for this sequel than this even
though I strongly disliked the first movie.
I guess it's worth checking out for the torture
scenes but it's not nearly as gruesome as people
make it out to be - or perhaps I've just seen
too many horror movies in my days. Either way,
I'm ultimately quite disappointed.

We get fish-hooks through the skin, toenails being
ripped out, one person gropes out the eyes, we
also get a melted face and some very disgusting
skin-peeling. Gory it sure was, but not as gory
as I had hoped that it would be.

The score was quite absent for a lot of the time
but I did like the old Thai music played in the
best torture scene. Ultimately, the score could've
been better though.

Do not believe everything you hear about this
movie because I have a hard time believing that
this will shock any true horror fan. It's really
not that gory and the movie doesn't live up to
its posters. Perhaps worth a rent for the gore
but I just didn't see anything special about this.
