A masked serial
killer is killing off the girls who get
posted on a popular college website. Meanwhile, a couple
of students are shooting a low budget slasher flick
called "Death Blood", and it also seems as if the
murders have something to do with the movie. Who could
this killer be? It's up to two girls to find out
before they become his next victims.

Okay, first of all I know that it took ages for this
indie slasher flick to find distribution - and even
when it did it was with some unknown company called
BTR Films, so my expectations weren't very high when
I headed into this. Still, I believe that the movie
was made at least in 2004 or later so my question is;
why did this look like it was made in the late 90s?
Backslash has washed-out colours, relatively poor
picture quality (it looked like the DVD had been
transferred from a VHS copy with questionable quality)
and a plot which felt all too similar to the late
90's Scream rip-offs. Sure, it's a low-budget movie,
anyone can see that, but there was just something
about it that felt so out of date.
First we have the fact that the entire cast is dressed
in typical 90s college clothes. Then we have the fact
that there are two killers in a "surprise" twist ending.
Then there's also the fact that the killers use a
robotic voice (like the one used in Scream) when he
talks to his victims. I'm even starting to wonder if
this movie was actually made in the late 90's but
didn't finish post production until 2004 or something
like that. Either way, that's probably the smallest
obstacle to overcome while watching this movie so
let's move on with the bashing.
Backslash plays like any late 90's slasher flick. A
bunch of students get terrorized by a masked killer
who stabs his victims to death and then takes their
livers. He uses a website to choose his next victim
(SPOILER: and this doesn't make any sense since it's
the killer's website) and has just targetted two
new girls. These two girls now have some investigating
to do before they become chopped liver. Can you say
yawn? It's over 100 minutes long and usually I don't
do this but I actually had to fast forward through
some of the long, unnecessary dialogues since it was
just painful to sit through.
To make things even worse, the soundtrack was beyond
awful. It felt as if they had just randomly edited in
some scary music here and there as the "normal" scenes
occasionally had some suspense music while the
"suspenseful" scenes had no music in them whatsoever
for most of the time. It was like watching paint dry.
There was no excitement, no blood, not even a decent
chase scene was to be found in here. And furthermore,
the acting was atrocious at best which didn't exactly
make the fact that the dialogues were horrible any
better. No wonder this movie couldn't find distribution,
I wouldn't even have released it as a freebie on
Slasherpool. Avoid this like the plague.

Some minor blood and some stabbings. YAWN!

Awful, awful, awful!!! Do I really need to say more?

Backslash is a cheap slasher flick which wouldn't
even have been enjoyable when the scream rip-offs
were coming out a dozen every week. This was just
mind-numbingly bad and I'm sad to say that I wish
that this hadn't found distribution ever. This is
one movie that should go straight to the bin. Anyone
want my copy? I'm not keeping it, that's for sure.
