A dorky girl gets invited to a party for no apparent
reason. Despite her suspicions, she decides to go,
only to get gang raped by three guys. As if that
wasn't enough, she's now branded as the school slut
and it seems as if she's all alone... so she decides
to take matter into her own hands. The people who
once made her the victim, are going to get a taste
of their own medicine.

Like a modern mix between I Spit In Your Grave and
Carrie, Bad Reputation grabbed my attention from the
first scene and didn't let go until it was over. It's
not that it's an original movie, it's just that we
haven't seen anything like this in such a long time,
not as brilliantly executed as this at least. Tamara
was bland and felt like any other teen slasher flick,
Torched was forgettable and don't even get me started
on the abysmal mainstream mess called "Carrie 2:
The Rage", I'll show them rage!

Anyway, it's hard to describe a movie like this one
but I'm at least going to do the best that I can.
Michelle is a dorky girl without any friends and
when she's invited to a party, she's overly excited.
Unfortunately for her, three of the guys at the
party gang rape her and then let their girlfriends
humiliate the hell out of her. It doesn't take more
than a couple of hours until she's known as the
school slut, but Michelle won't have this and
decides to get revenge on the people who did her
so much wrong. Now how's that for a story?

All other recent revenge slashers have been very
mainstream and haven't dared to go out on any limbs,
but this one does (even though I was surprised to
see that there wasn't any nudity in it). The rape
scene is incredibly long and painful to watch, but
at the same time, very effective. You really feel
for the poor girl. However, I don't think the rape
part was the worst. The way that the girls treated
her after she had been raped was even more gruesome
to watch for me. Imagine yourself getting gang raped
and then not only get the blame for it, but also get
tied up to a tree with everyone in your class
looking at you, without so much as a thought of
helping you. Now, that's a nightmare if anything.

The acting isn't flawless but Angelique Hennessy
gives us a really strong performance and that's all
that really matters. The directing is slick and
even though this is Jim Hemphill's first feature
movie, you can tell that he knows what he's doing.
The budget obviously wasn't very high but that doesn't
stop it from looking amazing. You can really feel
how they put a lot of effort into every single scene,
and to me, that's worth gold.

This is definitely not a movie to watch with your
girlfriend as the first half of the movie is just
painful to watch. It stays true to the subgenre
and doesn't try to be annoyingly mainstream, it
actually dares to go back to the roots of this genre.
If you miss the good old rape-revenge movies, you
should definitely check this one out, I enjoyed
every minute of it! This is sheer brilliance people!

A lot of blood splatter and throat slitting, but we
also get a really cool decapitation. Could have
been gorier, but satisfied my needs.

The violins kind of reminded me of Office Killer,
and that's a good thing. I love sleek violin music
in horror flicks and this really nailed it.

Gruesome to watch, too good to not to. Bad Reputation
gives a new meaning to the word revenge. It goes back
to the good old days when you really felt for the
victims. I love slashers where you root for the
villain and Bad Reputation is a perfect example of
that so this won't get a bad reputation from me.
