A family moves into their dream house and at first
everything seems idyllic but soon they realize that
they're not alone in the house. It appears that a
family died there three years ago in a tragic accident,
but just because they died, doesn't mean that they've
moved out. What do these spirits want and just how
scared should the family be?

Denmark has produced quite a few horror movies by now
and I've actually never seen a bad Danish horror movie,
until now. Bag Det Stille Ydre is a very slow ghost
thriller which copies the Swedish 80s flick "The Visitors"
in almost every way possible. The concept is very
unoriginal and the movie never even gets close to
suspenseful. I was actually expecting a whole lot more.
The movie starts out with the family moving into a
house and we get to see them move in for 15 minutes,
those were the slowest 15 minutes of my life. Then we
get to see them become friends with their neighbours
who are acting very strange. Then, after 35 minutes or
so, a ghost hunter comes to their house to solve the
mystery even though very few things have happened in
the house so far, I wouldn't even have suspected ghosts
if I was in the same situation. Either way, the ghost
hunter doesn't manage to solve the mystery and strange
things start happening again.
The story is poorly developed and lacks of depth in
every possible aspect. The directing is absolutely
abysmal. I think that the director tried to throw in
a couple of original angles but it's just very annoying.
However, the photography is pretty nice with very
vibrant colours and a lot of contrasts. The acting is
also pretty damn good and you can really feel the strong
bond of the family, much more credible than the acting
in "Hide and Seek" with Dakota and DeNiro.
This never became very successful at the Danish box-office
and it doesn't really surprise me as there are simply
not enough things going on to keep you interested for
more than a couple of seconds every now and then. The
movie is utterly predictable and I am just really
disappointed to see that they've spent so much money
on a script that must've been written in less than a
week. With a few more scares and with more focus on the
spirits it might have been a good movie but the result
I saw fell flat on the ground.

No gore at all.

The silent soundtrack is an okay suspense score but
it's never really in focus.

A huge disappointment! I had expected a creepy ghost
story like The Grudge but what I got was a slow moving
drama thriller without any suspense in it at all.
Nothing really happens until the last 4 minutes or so
and it's really not worth the while. Stay away from
this and check out some other Danish horror flick
instead as this is clearly the worst movie they have
ever produced.
