Random
campers get brutally slaughtered by cannibals
while either indulging in sex or talking about sex
in this German splatter fest. Meanwhile, three friends
are out on a trip in the woods and it just so happens
that they also run into the cannibals.

You're right, there's no story to be found in Barricade,
and perhaps that's for the best because whenever it
tries to become serious, it just becomes the opposite.
I'm not a big fan of splatter movies with no story,
this is often the case with German splatter flicks as
they're filled with gore, nudity and bad actors and
Barricade is no exception.
The so called story focuses on three friends, two guys
and one girl, who are on a trip to the German woods
for some reason (don't ask me why though as the girl
rant about how stupid Germans are). In a poor attempt
to make us root for the characters, they've made it
so that one of the guys has a crush on the girl - but
this is very complicated as she's recently divorced
her husband who's gotten custody of their daughter
(I told you it was a poor attempt didn't I?). Don't
worry though, little time is spent on developing these
characters. For most of the time it's just random
people getting slaughtered or long, tedious stalking
scenes where the cannibals breath heavily.
It's obvious that Barricade had a shoe-string budget,
but it's unfortunate that it didn't stay very long
in the editing room. The movie is poorly cut together
with annoying flashes filling the screen every other
minute or so. The colours are way too aggressive as
the movie is oversaturated which makes it difficult
to look at (I actually had to turn the saturation
level down on my TV in order to be able to watch the
whole thing). But the worst thing about the editing
has to be the grainy "old-film-reel" effect that looked
as if it was made in Windows Movie Maker.
This is actually the first movie that I've seen from
Timo Rose, and after having seen this, I don't think
that I will be checking out his upcoming horror flick,
Moonlight Mountain, any time soon. The camerawork is
bad, and I mean bad and for some reason the movie
actually matches the soundtrack - not just every now
and then, but all the time! What is this? A homemade
music video? The acting isn't very good either but
I guess they didn't have a whole lot to work with
seeing as how the entire movie could have been cut
down to 10 minutes without the viewer losing any
important information.
If you're a fan of Schnaas and Ittenbach, I'm guessing
you'll be a Timo Rose fan as well because it's all
the same to me. No story, lots of cheap gore, a couple
of boobies and poor acting. If you have your standards
a little higher though, I'd recommend that you stay
away from this awful movie. It's only getting a rating
of one because I can tell that a lot of effort was
put into making it and that should give these guys
at least some credit... shouldn't it?

Guts, gore, blood, this movie has it all. Unfortunately
that's pretty much all that it has as well but if
castrations, melted faces, severed body parts and
intestines is enough to keep you interested, this is
definitely the film for you.

Most of it was probably composed on a computer by a
rookie composer as the soundtrack is extremely cheesy
and sounds very cheap. There is some decent rock
music in here as well though which works better than
the suspense score.

If you're into guts, gore and sex and have absolutely
no interest in seeing a good story, then Barricade is
the film for you. I just need a better plot than this
to keep me interested so I don't even think that I need
to tell you that I wasn't a big fan of this movie and
that I personally could never recommend it.
