In a small, quiet town in Wisconsin, people have been turning
up dead, or at least parts of them. Rumours about a killer
monster, or a werewolf are going around and the cops are
clueless of what they're up against. Could it be true what
people are saying? That the beast of bray road actually is
a real living werewolf?

Every time I find a DVD from The Asylum in my mail, I know
that I'm in for an entertaining DTV horror flick and this
was also the case with The Beast Of Bray Road. The last
movie I saw from The Asylum was "Frankenstein Reborn" where
they modernized the Frankenstein's Monster concept. This
time they have decided to give the good old werewolf story
a make-over. Now, this might not be Ginger Snaps but for
being a modern werewolf flick, it's a whole lot better than
most of the rest of them (like Wolf Girl and Bad Moon).
The story is a little bit different from other werewolf
flicks as we never really know whether this actually is
a werewolf or not until the cool, but predictable climax
and it actually feels more like a backwoods slasher flick
than a werewolf flick for most of the time (even though
it really isn't).

As expected, the movie looks incredibly good and high budget
with nice photography and slick directing. The acting is
however a very mixed bag. The key characters are good actors
but the other ones are terrible, it's a good thing that it
wasn't the other way around. The main mistake this one
does with the characters is that we never really get to
know them. I mean, they seem like nice people that we should
be rooting for but we just don't know much enough about
them to really care whether they die or not. I didn't really
like the fact that this turned into a clichéd action thriller
towards the ending either which is the main reason to why
I didn't like it more than it did.

The Beast Of Bray Road might try to be original but there
have been so many werewolf movies lately that even though
this one approaches the concept a bit differently, I still
felt as if I've had enough of werewolf flicks for the time
being. For a werewolf fan, this is a must though as the
movie is still very entertaining with lots of intestines
and blood but if you, like me, have had enough of werewolf
flicks for a while, you might want to wait a while before
you see this one. All in all, it's a solid and entertaining
movie though so don't think that I didn't like it because
I most definitely did.

We get some bodies torn in half, a head split open, a leg
ripped off and some more.

The soundtrack is very silent but the rock music is pretty
nice. Too bad the score is played so silently through the
entire flick.

Relatively interesting take on the classic Werewolf story.
Does borrow some elements from the 80s backwoods slashers
as well which was a nice touch. The problem that I had
with this one was basically the fact that I'm getting sick
of modern Werewolf movies, I've seen too many of them and
the only really good one was Ginger Snaps. Over-all this
is a good movie though and werewolf fans won't be disappointed.
