When Christy
was only fourteen years old, her sister
was horrible disfigured in a tragic car accident which
six months later led to her death. Ever since then,
Christy has had haunting visions showing how her sister
was buried alive. Now, six years later, Christy has
returned to her hometown... only to realize that her
nightmares are all about to come true.

Is it just me or wasn't this meant to be a theatrical
movie? Had it been made eight years ago, this teen
thriller would've killed at the box-office. Now, not
so much. Beneath is a decent teen-thriller about a
mystery that isn't really a mystery but becomes a
mystery... do you follow? Well, here's the basics
for you; Christy's sister died six years ago which
led to Christy having haunting visions. For whatever
reason she also believes that her sister was buried
alive. So now, six years later she's decided to return
to her hometown and snoop around. Several times in
the movie people kept asking Christy "Why are you
doing this?", "What are you hoping to achieve?". That's
the exact same question I was posing for myself while
watching it. There's no real mystery in there.
Anyhow, the non-existent mystery soon develops into a
mystery by a fluke more or less. It's funny how one
clue always leads to another isn't it? Intrigues,
murder and adultery - man is this one for Days Of Our
Lives or what? To tell you the truth though, once you're
convinced that there really is a mystery to be found
in here, you're pretty much hooked. Sure, it's quite
unoriginal and the script reeks of TV-thriller but
overall it was a quite stellar movie with a competent
cast and crew and a decent budget. Of course, what
else can you expect from MTV? Wait... that didn't come
out right. Anyway, the story is actually somewhat
intriguing and suspenseful once it gets going and no
matter how cliché this movie may be, I still found
myself enjoying it more than I thought that I would.
Yes, I'll agree with you that it's sad that generic
TV-thrillers are overall the best things on the market
right now because they are quite mediocre for most of
the time, but the fact is, movies like this keep you
entertained and doesn't put you to sleep and that's
good enough for me these days. You can't be too picky
with all these no-budget horror flicks coming out
from Lions Gate every week. There's really not a whole
lot more to say about it though. It's a surprisingly
decent teen-thriller which probably would have made
a decent amount of money had it gone theatrically,
even if it's not theatre-worthy in my opinion. Probably
not worth a rent but if you find it on cable late one
night, it's definitely worth checking out.

Not much here.

Very competent soundtrack.

Beneath is a somewhat pleasant surprise in my opinion
as it's got an intriguing story and a stellar cast.
It won't give anyone goose bumps but if you're in the
mood for a mindless teen-thriller, this might actually
be worth while. For fans of movies like "Disturbing
Behaviour" and "Abandon".
