It's been forty years since a small village was
flooded and lied to rest beneath the sea, and the
town which has been built next to it is celebrating
the anniversary. What the citizens of this town don't
know is that there's an evil lurking in the sea and
it's planning on surfacing. It's now up to a female
reporter and a photographer to stop this evil from
taking over the entire town.

Brian Yuzna is on deep water with his latest feature
film "Beneath Still Waters" and gives us his worst
horror movie to date. This is a hysterical mix
between "The Fog", "The Blob" and "Return Of The Living
Dead" and it tastes about as good as ketchup on
cotton candy - in other words, the ingredients of
this movie just weren't meant to be mixed.

Raquel Meroņo plays Teresa, a single mother who
spends more time on her job than on her daughter
Clara. Michael McKell plays Dan, a divorced
photographer whose son drowned a couple of years
ago. Both Teresa and Dan are interested in the
town which has been put under water and are both
adventurous enough to start digging in the evil
history behind it. Soon enough, zombies and other
creatures start to rise out of the water and it's
up to our duo to stop them before it's too late.

The fog-machine is set on "ridiculously high", the
zombies need a visit from Fab 5 and the script
needs to be thrown into the fireplace. I'm amazed
that a great company like Fantastic Factory actually
fell for this story. I mean, the script is based
on a story by a guy who's only written stories for
generic video-games before - that should give you a
clue of just how bad this was. It's such a generic
and predictable movie that anyone could have
written it, there are no surprises or twists at all.

Another thing which annoyed me was that it didn't
seem to know what kind of movie it wanted to be. We
have some funny-looking water zombies, a powerful
devil worshipper who's returned from the dead but
looks nothing like a zombie, a black goo which
kills people and psychotic demons. I mean, what the
hell? Settle for one thing please! This was not a
pleasurable experience and I really hope that Brian
Yuzna's next film turns out to be better than this.

There's a decent amount of gore in here, we get a lot
of severed body parts, a couple of decapitated heads,
some guts, a face opened up from jaw to jaw and some
blood splatter. Didn't save the movie though.

Nothing special, just as generic as the movie.

I'm surprised that Brian Yuzna made this movie as
it's not nearly as good as his previous ones. It's
generic, it's silly and it's just ridiculous. Do
not watch this movie, it could kill brain cells,
that's how stupid this movie was. I'm very disappointed
to say the least.
