The loch ness
monster has moved and is now inhabiting
a small lake in an even smaller town in the USA. It's
breeding time and nessie is munching away at the locals
like there's no tomorrow. Fortunately, a man specializing
in loch ness monsters shows up to save the day but
it appears that nessie isn't alone... soon enough the
place is crawling with baby nessies. Will he be able
to stop them before it's too late?

Every lake has its own monster so why on earth would
the locals in a small town in America call their
lake monster Nessie? That's just one of the things
that don't make any sense at all about this movie.
The Sci-Fi channel returns, after a long break, to
once again show us what's hidden in the Scottish loch.
But wait, there's a twist, Nessie (which is portrayed
here as a lizard-like dragon) has grown sick of the
loch and is now inhabiting a small lake crawling with
underwater caves and tunnels (that lead to small
ponds on random islands) in the United States. I'm
not sure if I got this right as I eventually gave up
on the far-fetched plot but the funny thing is,
Beyond Loch Ness is actually pretty entertaining...
in a campy sort of way.
The movie starts out with a kid witnessing his dad
get killed by the incredibly vicious Loch Ness
Monster. Thirty years later, he visits Ashburn, a
small town located by a lake called Lake Superior
where Nessie now lives and is breeding like never
before (with who or what I have no idea). It doesn't
take long before the community is crawling with tiny
nessies (who don't seem all that harmful, they're
actually pretty cute) and a group of random people
have to try to save the day. Random is actually the
key word in here but watching the killer dragon-lizard-
snake-fish-dinosaur munch away on the locals is actually
rather amusing. The monsters look good for most of
the time and it doesn't just make an appearance here
and there but the main monster is actually in the
centre of the movie at all times - certainly something
unusual for Sci-Fi channel originals.
Beyond Loch Ness has a few things going for it such as
gore, good pace and decent acting among other things
but it was just very difficult for me to eat the whole
thing up since there were so many major plot holes
in it. It does beat the crap out of Beneath Loch
Ness though which was one of the worst creature features
ever and I'm actually going to have to say that this
is the best loch ness oriented creature feature that
I've seen to date. Perhaps you'd like to check it out
for that reason but try not to think too much about
the ridiculous plot. It's actually pretty decent once
you get past that part.

A lot of guts, man chewed in half, decapitations etc.
Pretty gory for a Sci-fi original.

You know the drill.

Probably the best creature feature about the loch ness
monster to date, even if that's not saying much. It's
got lots of action, a cool-looking monster and some
decent gore. The story may not be the best but heck,
movies like these are just made to entertain, not to
make you think so enjoy it for what it is.
