Herbert West continues with his experiments on how to
bring dead people back to life in this third Re-Animator
movie. This time Dr. West gets help from the doctor at
the penitentiary where West is being held. But even
if his intentions seem better than before, things still
end up terribly wrong and soon there are zombies taking
over the penitentiary.

Being one of the few horror fans that have yet to see the
first Re-Animator movies I didn't really know what to
expect. Turns out that this was a somewhat freestanding
sequel so I really don't think you need to have seen the
previous two movies to be able to enjoy this like I did.
With an impressive opening scene that leaves nothing to
the imagination, this movie quickly got my hopes up for
a really good horrorfilm. Well it was a good film and it
was quite gory but in the end I had laughed more than I
had jumped or screamed. Needless to say, the black humour
in this was really unnecessary and unappreciated.
The acting is so and so, Jeffrey Combs over shines most of
the noname actors in this. Elsa Pataky, who I recognized
from the Spanish horrorthriller El Arte De Morir plays
the very unconvincing part of Laura and was by far the
worst actor in this movie. The directing is a different
story though, it looks really good actually. So do most
of the special effects so I really have no complaints in
that department.
While there where a couple of things bringing down the
quality of Beyond Re-Animator, it was still a pretty
entertaining movie and when it's finished you have no
regrets of having seen it. It would probably have been
a whole lot better if they had only skipped all the
black humour. I'm just happy that I finally got to watch
it and who would have thought that I was going to see
it on the big screen, thank you Scanbox for bringing
this to the Swedish theatres.

Most of the gore is pretty unserious but we do get quite
a lot of cool zombies, many severed body parts, a knife in
the chest, an exploding stomach, and so much more.

This was also pretty good, a lot of bass and drum sounds
along with some cool violin music. This soundtrack really
was depending on the bass though but I thought that it
was pretty cool.

I'm thinking that perhaps I should review Re-Animator and
Bride Of Re-Animator soon but we'll see about that. As a
Stand-alone flick this was pretty good though and I have
no regrets of watching it. It was basically just gory
fun entertainment even if the gore wasn't to be taken
very seriously. Despite some of the bad acting, this
movie survived so I have to say that I recommend this.
