Some girls in
a sorority house receive weird and scary phone calls
from someone who seems to have a split personality as he seems to
be doing many voices at once. They aren't too serious about it at
first, but as the calls get more and more personal and terrifying,
they start expecting that he's not just fooling around. When a dead
girl is found, hell breaks loose at the sorority...

This is a true classic slasher from the 70's. The phone calls are
awesome and you can see were Fulci got his New York Ripper idea
from. Black Christmas is one of those movies that you just lean
back and enjoy. It's not scary or very intense in my opinion, but
I'm sure it was when it first came out. Why do I find this so
entertaining then? Well, basically I just like the occasional
slasher that really focuses on building up the characters and
trying to build the story more like a giallo than an
average Hollywood
blockbuster slasher.
Margot Kidder
is as beautiful as always and a terrific actress,
all of these sorority girls do a very good job building up their
characters, but the one I rooted for the most was the old lady
who ran the sorority house. The directing is excellent, it's a
little sloppy here and there but I love the way we get to see the
girl with a plastic bag over her head all the time, even if it's
very unrealistic that nobody would see her from the street as
she is right by the attic window.
I know that many
of you probably wonder why I give this movie
such a high rating... well... I really don't know... it just
appeals to me and I've held it dear for many years and I was just
thrilled to see this once again. I do feel that this has a lot
of resemblances to Italian giallos but in some way it doesn't
quiet manage to get away from the average Hollywood slasher so
that's really the only thing that doesn't work for the movie.
Other than that, I love this movie, this is an old cult movie
that I think everyone should check out.

Nothing in particularly gory. A woman gets a hook in her neck,
some people get slashed throats, and some blood splatter here
and were, but that's really all we get.

A lot of piano music and Christmas carols helps building the
atmosphere up for Black Christmas, surprised? Well, I do love the
Christmas carols and I think the soundtrack is a perfect score.

Simply terrific movie, which doesn't feel as 70's as you might
think it will feel like. This is one of my personal favourites
but since it doesn't have much suspense or intense scenes, I can't
bring myself to giving this five stars. I do wish that everyone
who has missed out on this old classic will give it a try though.
