Jane has
finally decided to move back to her home town,
Blackstone, so that she can raise her daughter in a
safer environment. Little does she know that a swarm
of mutant killer wasps have taken over the community
of Blackstone and is building nests inside of people.

What a hoot! I've seen several killer wasps/bees/flies
etc creature features but this one has got to be the
best to come out in several years. Black Swarm may not
be the most original horror flick out there but when
it comes to killer insect films, they just don't get
much better than this. Just a few hours ago I sat
through "Swamp Devil" which certainly wasn't anything
special so it's just astounding to think that this was
made by the exact same people who wrote, produced and
directed Swamp Devil because they're not even comparable.
Black Swarm is a fun, fast-paced and action-filled
creature feature which is certainly a breath of fresh
air in a dying subgenre. I swear this could've been a
moderately successful horror flick had it gone theatrical
(and I'm pretty good at predicting box-office numbers).
As I told you before, I've seen many creature features
with a similar concept in the past years but this is
the first time that a movie about killer insects has
actually affected me. During the movie I even got so
paranoid that I thought that a birthmark on my arm
was some sort of creepy crawler - now that's exactly
what a movie about killer insects should do to you
because let's face it, no one likes insects - and the
ones who do are pretty weird if you ask me. Okay so
what's different about Black Swarm is that the wasps
do not build nests in walls or in trees etc. They build
nests inside peoples heads. Now that's a nightmare if
I ever knew one. Having sex outdoors is never gonna be
the same again.
Now for those of you who have seen the movie, I'm sure
you're just waiting for me to point out the negative
stuff because there is indeed some negative stuff to
be said about this flick. Let's take the moment before
the climax for example where Jane reveals a dark secret.
It was so cheesy and ludicrous that I couldn't believe
my ears. Also, what's up with all these open endings
in DTV creature features? It's not as if we're ever
going to see a sequel to this movie - and I'm sure that
they were well aware of this when they made it. Anyhoo,
as usual with RHI productions, the movie looks great
production wise. It's nicely shot with surprisingly
nice cinematography and, considering the budget,
spectacular special effects.
Black Swarm is an extremely entertaining creature feature
and is definitely one of the best creature features to
come out in years. It has some flaws and all but
considering the topic of the movie, I think they did
one hell of a job. I'm also looking forward to seeing
more of Sarah Allen in the future as she did a great
job and looked like a young Jodi Foster (only hotter).
If you're in the mood for a top-notch creature feature,
don't miss this one.

Not a whole lot but the special effects were great.

I've got nothing much to say here as usual.

Finally! A top-notch creature feature about killer wasps.
Man have we been waiting for a movie like this or what?
This had everything a movie like this should have + the
special effects were MUCH better than most movies
released by the Sci-Fi channel. If they're planning on
releasing creature features in cinemas in the future,
I really hope that they kick it all off with this one.
Strongly recommended.
