Three friends go on a vacation in the Australian
backwoods and decide to go on a fishing tour through
the mangroves. Bad idea. It doesn't take long before
they're the bate as a ravenous crocodile chases them
up in a tree. With nowhere to go, it seems as if this
might be the end for the three friends.

Eenie meenie miney mo, who will be the next to go?
Well whoever it is, it's going to take a LONG time
before that person goes. I'm pretty sure that a trip
to Sea world is more exciting and action-filled than
this slow-paced and uneventful killer croc movie, if
you can call it that. The crocodile doesn't do a
whole lot of killing, in fact, it only kills two
people (which of one is the tour guide) and naturally
both kills are more or less off screen. Sure, the
crocodile may very well be real and all but it's just
not that intimidating watching bubbles reach the
surface. Black Water is repetitive, annoyingly dull
and extremely underwhelming so pile this one up with
the rest of this years crappy killer croc flicks.

The story revolves around Grace, her boyfriend and her
younger sister who are on a trip together. They decide
to explore the backwaters of Australia and go on a
guided fishing trip, only to get their boat rammed
in the middle of no-man’s-land (or shall I say river?).
Up until this point, everything seemed pretty
promising about this flick. The production values
looked decent, there was a decent amount of suspense
and the actors were convincing enough. Unfortunately,
it all goes downhill from there. For the rest of the
movie we get to see the friends sit and whine in a
tree while trying to come up with a solution to get
out of there without getting eaten by the crocodile.
They always come up with the same solution but they
never quite manage to pull it off. In other words,
this is how the movie goes; whine - try to get to
boat - get attacked but survive - whine - try to get
to the boat - get attacked but survive. Lather, rinse,
repeat. This gets extremely tiresome.

What's even worse is that despite the fact that we
have to watch these people sit in a tree for about an
hour, we never really get to know anything about them.
These are very shallow and flat characters and all we
really know is that one of them is pregnant. Obviously,
character development was not a priority with this
script. So what was the priority? Well, who knows, most
of the movie seemed like fodder. Yeah, it's about an
hour of fodder in here people. Very exciting stuff.
There are also a bunch of extreme flaws in this movie,
like why would they try to grab a rope with a tiny
branch (if you can call it that, and is that the exact
same branch that they use every time?). Didn't anyone
notice that they were in the mangroves, surrounded by
solid logs that they could easily have used to grab
the rope with.

Well, you know what? Black Water is a movie about a
bunch of whiny, annoying people who sit in a tree.
It's like a really dull National Geographic show with
some minor blood in it. This was a snore to me, throw
this in the pile of other disappointing killer croc
flicks to come out in the year 2007, or better yet,
don't check it out at all.

A dismembered arm and some ridiculously dry wounds.

This felt very odd for the movie, didn't suit it at all.

If you're looking for an action-packed killer croc flick,
look elsewhere. Sure, the crocodile is real and all but
it acts strange and for most of the time it just
appears as ripples on the surface while the friends
scream in panic (despite being high up in a tree).
This was a snooze-fest, don't bother.
