James Purefoy and Heather Graham play a couple
who seeks help from a clinic to get a baby since
Heather isn't fertile, she's actually only got
one shot of having a baby. Well, the impregnation
is a success and it seems as all the pieces are
finally put together for the couple. But what
they don't know is that the clinic is hiding
something... exactly what is it that's growing
inside the Samantha's (Heather) stomach?

I've heard many people saying that this is a
complete Rosemary's Baby rip-off. Well, I'm
here to tell them that they're wrong! It's a
remake. Perhaps not intentionally but it's
basically the exact same film set in modern
time. For crying out loud, just look at the
poster for the movie, that's not a rip-off,
it's the same poster - modernized. I don't know
why foetus horror has gotten so big again. In
Asia we have "The Unborn" and "Unborn but
Forgotten" with their ghostly twists and in
America we have "Godsend" and "666: The Demon
Child" and even if all of these are pretty
bad, this actually manages to be quite good.

Now I can honestly say that I didn't think
that Rosemary's Baby was all that, come on,
where was the horror in that? It might have
worked back in the old days but that movie
is definitely not an undying classic. However
I think that Blessed brought the story into
a modern perspective in a very good way. It's
still got the same slow pace and mystery
around it and it's also added a couple of
appreciated jumps and scares. This could have
been a lot worse than it was folks.

I think that both Heather Graham and James
Purefoy are very talented actors and they were
just perfect for this movie but no one can top
Stella Stevens in this one. She puts on an
excellent performance and honestly I didn't
know she had it in her. The directing is also
slick and looks really good. So try to think
of this as a remake rather than a rip-off,
for it is really a remake. For those of you
who were disappointed by Godsend but liked
the idea, this one might be worth a watch.
I had expected it to be worse.

Sorry but this is no gorier than Rosemary's
Baby, didn't feel that it needed it though.
There is a pretty gruesome scene where a boys
face melts though.

How does one proceed to describe the soundtrack
for Blessed? Well, to summarize it in one word,
the soundtrack was... hygienic. It sounded clean,
literarily. It was happy but with a hint of
sadness, I liked it.

If you think of Blessed as a remake of Rosemary's
Baby you might enjoy it more than if you think
of it as an original movie. I mean, it was a
predictable movie, we all knew how it was going
to end, well basically anyway. I think it went
beyond my expectations.
