Vivian is a teenage werewolf with a serious problem,
she's in love with a human. If you thought that your
family was difficult to deal with when you were dating
someone from a different culture as a teenager, just
wait until you meet Vivian's...

I'm going to keep it short and simple. Ever since I saw
the first picture from Blood & Chocolate (a picture
of a glossy wolf) I knew that this wasn't going to
be good. When the trailer showed up I expected it to
be atrocious. However, a friend of mine really wanted
to see it so I came along anyway and it just so turned
out that Blood & Chocolate wasn't as awful as I had
expected it to be - but still, it was pretty damn bad.

The title is very misleading if you ask me, because
there's no blood to be seen in here (it's rated PG-13),
and the fact that Vivian works in a chocolate store
doesn't have much to do with the story (by the way,
how silly is that?). The story is basic Romeo & Juliet
material where cultural differences is in the way of
a burning love between a boy and a girl. There's not
really a whole lot more to say about the story than
that to be honest with you, the writers of Underworld
sure have dropped the ball with this one. Apart from
two or three chase scenes through the woods, there
really wasn't anything even remotely horror about it
so why market it as a horror flick?

If you overlook the marketing, I'm pretty sure that
Blood & Chocolate was targeting teenage girls as the
movie is filled with extremely, and I mean EXTREMELY,
cheesy romantic scenes, magical, glossy, pink wolf
transformations and an endless amount of clichés. If
I had had a teenage sister, I would definitely have
recommended this to her.

As I said before though, Blood & Chocolate wasn't
nearly as bad as I had expected it to be. In fact,
it was actually watchable. Mediocre and poor, but
watchable. Why? Because of the pace, despite some
cheesy romantic scenes, there was always something
going on and it was just about interesting enough
to keep you from leaving the theatre. Agnes Bruckner
naturally helped a lot as well though.

Overall, I don't see any point checking out this
extremely generic werewolf movie where werewolves are
portrayed as more of a magical creature (such as a
unicorn) than a vicious, man-eating animal. Teenage
girls might dig this though so if you have a sister
or a daughter, you might want to buy this on DVD to
her when it comes out. One thing's for sure, Blood
and Chocolate is not a horror flick.

Pg-13, nothing much. Seriously. MPAA: Rated PG-13 for
substance abuse. Raunchy!

As expected, this was filled with teen pop/rock music
and epic music. Garbage.

Well, it's bad, but not as bad as one might expect.
Blood & Chocolate is a somewhat watchable, generic
werewolf movie, probably suited better for teenage
girls than for hardcore horror fans as it's not
really a horror flick. If you want to see a classic
Romeo & Juliet story with a "twist", be my guest.
