A couple
of friends are heading up to Blood Creek
to camp before the place gets demolished, only
to find out that the place has been cursed.
Stupid as they are, they decide to perform the
ritual which is said to bring back the ghosts
that surround this place. Naturally, the spirits
are awoken and start to take out their rage
on the poor, drunk teens.

Blood Creek opens up with a young couple making
out in a barn, only to get killed by a ghost with
a hayfork and even though this scene is pretty
poorly executed, I was still very excited to
finally get to see a ghost slasher again since
this is a rare, but often a quite entertaining
subgenre. Unfortunately this turned out to be
anything but a slasher. Sure, it does have
camping teens and a curse revolving the place,
and the place is even called Blood Creek - can
you see why I thought this was going to be a
slasher flick?. But Blood Creek is not about a
ghostly spirit with a hayfork, it's mainly about
a female ghost who's upset with the teens since
they've awaken her baby.
I wasn't too fond of the plot for this movie and
there are just so many flaws to be found that I
ended up writing a list over all things that
annoyed me. No, I'm not going to go through this
entire list but let me point out at least a
couple of the things that I wasn't too satisfied
with. First of all, it's in the middle of the
night but there doesn't seem to be a single dark
corner in the barn. I mean, sure it's nice to
be able to see what's going on but it's like
they've packed the place with lamps. Another thing
which was kind of frustrating was the ammount of
ghosts. There's the ghost mother, the ghost daughter,
the ghost baby, the ghost chick in the forest, the
ghost hitch-hiker, the ghost gas-attendant, the
ghost farmer etc, you catch my drift? We don't
even get explanations to who some of these ghosts
are. The last thing that I'm going to bring up
here is the ending which is the worst part of
the movie. Not to spoil anything, but the ending
made no sense at all and we never do find out
what happened to some of the kids. It's about as
satisfying as the ending in "Blair Witch Project".
Now, I've been very negative towards this film
so far but from all bad comes something good and
that is also the case with Blood Creek. Once the
movie finally gets going, it's actually pretty
creepy at times and I did jump a couple of times
at some cheap, but effective scares. The acting
is also better than expected. The directing is
a bit of a mess and I don't know if it was
intentionally but there are a lot of scenes where
it seems like the camera has been paused only to
continue filming a second later. When you see it
you'll know what I mean. This is by no means a
masterpiece but I'll give it some credit for
being kind of creepy since very few DTV horror
flicks are but overall, I can't recommend this,
it is simply too dull.

Nothing.

In the beginning of the film we get some harmonica
music which feels kind of odd, but actually works
so I wish they had used that more throughout the
film. Unfortunately, the rest of the film is
filled with some cheap muzak which isn't very
effective. The suspense score works all right though.

If you're expecting a slasher, think again. Blood
Creek is a low-budget ghost story which gets really
bad before it gets good and I doubt that many
people will make it to the good part as most of
it is plain dull. If you can overlook some serious
flaws though, this movie does have its creepy
moments and a couple of good scares.
