An inbred
hillbilly family living in the woods is
desperate to keep their bloodline going and has
kidnapped a bunch of women in hopes of finding the
perfect host. Among these women is Amber, who has no
intention of being raped or murdered. Together with
her new-found friend Jenny, they try everything they
can to get out of this mess alive, but will they
succeed? Or will Billy Bob get his wish and find the
perfect woman to carry his child.

Thinkfilm hasn't been distributing many horror films
lately even though they used to be one of the main
distributors of DTV horror flicks. I guess they've
moved on to bigger and better things. Either way,
I remember that most of their releases used to be
pretty good and have decent production values so I was
a bit surprised when I turned on Bloodlines and saw
that it was clearly a low-budget effort. Nevertheless,
Bloodlines turned out to be an okay horror flick, if
a bit too familiar and ludicrous for my taste.
The story revolves around Amber Strickland, a strong
independent woman who has just been kidnapped by a
bunch of rednecks. She wakes up inside a room with
two other women and soon realizes that the inbreds
are looking for the perfect woman to mate with (heck,
even hillbillies are picky these days, no wonder
there are so many single people in the world). This
is basically a pretty cool concept, but I didn't like
the fact that they had crammed a whole bunch of
subplots in there to cover up a thin script. Here are
two of the subplots that can be found in the movie;
1. Amber's brothers (?) come looking for Amber and
start killing the rednecks as well.
2. The rednecks force the women to kill each other
to see who's the strongest and who can survive.
The second of these subplots is fairly entertaining
but if it had been up to me, I would just have left
the two brothers out of the picture as they added
nothing. On the other hand, it would have been a bit
far-fetched to have just Amber go around and killing
all the inbreeds - but once again, on the other hand,
this movie didn't seem to mind being far-fetched.
To be honest with you, I kind of feel that the movie
never really went anywhere. It's a predictable ride
and we all know how it's going to end, it didn't
seem to have any real purpose or message in it, but
for what its worth, it is fairly entertaining and
a quite decent low-budget effort. It probably could
have been a whole lot better, but if you're in the
mood for a movie with killer inbreeds in it, Bloodlines
might be worth a rent.

A knife in the head, a slashed throat, a dismembered
arm, some impalements and some guts. It didn't feel
very gory though for some reason.

I loved the heavy drums but the rest of the score was
pretty bland. Nothing impressive.

Mildly enjoyable horror movie with a bunch of plot
holes (like where did all the girls go?) and a quite
ludicrous story. If you try not to analyze the story,
I'm sure you'll be able to enjoy it as it is a decent
horror flick, but keep in mind, it's not a high budget
effort, and it's easy to tell in every aspect.
