A group of
students head out in the jungle to meet with
a world-renowned doctor with whom they will explore
some uncharted territory. Unfortunately for them, they
soon find out that they've just been brought along as
bate as the doctor has discovered that there are some
huge gorilla's thought to have been extinct hundreds
of years ago living in the uncharted territory...

Hmm, I'm trying to figure out how many movies I have
left to see of RHI Entertainment's Maneater series.
I've seen "In The Spiders Web", "Maneater", "Grizzly
Rage", and now "Blood Monkey" and I'm watching "Croc",
"Something Beneath" and "Eye Of The Beast" later this
month. I don't know if there are any more movies in
this Maneater series but I'm hoping that those are
all of them since they are sucking badly so far. Blood
Monkey is no exception, this weak horror movie shot in
Thailand (where many of the Maneater movies were shot
apparently) is an absolute dud for the first hour or
so. Seriously, nothing happens. A bunch of annoying
teens walk around in the jungle while trying to act
smarter than they probably are. This bunch of no-good
students would never get an assignment like this so
right there the movie is ludicrous. After the first
hour has passed, things start getting interesting, but
when the movie finally has my interest, the end credits
start to roll. BOO!
The thin story revolves around a group of students
who head into the jungles of Thailand to explore some
uncharted territory together with world renowned
professor, Hamilton (played by an uninterested F.
Murray Abraham who clearly only signed onto this
project to make some quick bucks). After walking around
in the jungle for some time, they slowly start to
realize that they've just been brought along as bate
for some oversized monkey's living in the jungle. Why?
Because Professor Hamilton is anxious to capture one
and prove to the world that these monkeys still exist,
oh and to make lots of money of course. The project
soon goes wrong and there are no longer any places left
to hide as the monkeys have outsmarted the entire crew
(which tells you a lot about the movie).
I had to split Blood Monkey in two halves and take a
break for a couple of hours after the first half since
it was so tragically boring and almost put me to sleep.
It's technically rather poor and looks cheaper than
it probably should have considering its budget. We
don't get to see the actual monkeys until the final
five seconds of the movie - and thank god for that.
The CGI-effects are just terrible. But to be fair, this
movie does have some very suspenseful moments in it
towards the ending that make up for a lot of things
including its extreme pacing problems. That's the only
positive thing I can find to say about this movie though
and even if you really want to watch killer monkeys
attack teens in the jungle, I still can't recommend
this movie. It's just too bad. Plus, you won't actually
get to see the monkeys kill anyone.

Some bloody rips, a severed hand, an impalement and a
lot of blood splatter. Nothing huge.

Nothing special.

Blood Monkey is a very slow-paced creature feature in
which we don't actually get to see the creature until
the final seconds of the movie, and even then we don't
get to see it kill anyone. That should tell you enough
about this movie for you to not check it out. Don't
bother with this DTV horror flick.
