Four
friends are going to a rock concert and decide
to take a road which is being closed down. What they
don't know is that this road will take them straight
to hell. They soon find themselves stuck on a ranch
with a bunch of deranged farmers. Will anyone get out
of this alive?

I think that it's pretty obvious that Blood Ranch
isn't a good movie, but despite several flaws and
plot holes, I was still pleasantly surprised that
it didn't turn out to be as abysmal as I had
expected it to be, this was just an averagely bad
DTV horror flick.
Blood Ranch revolves around a couple of friends who
get stuck at a ranch with a couple of psycho farmers
and while I like the concept (hell, I loved it when
it was used in Hoboken Hollow), it was very poorly
executed here. The villains are ridiculous and look
nothing like farmers at all. The main villain looked
like a pirate, his wife was a midget (in drag?) and
then we have like eight other psycho's working on
this farm as well who we never really get to know.
In my opinion, there were simply too many bad guys.
We also have too many good guys. First we have the
four friends, then we have the hitch-hiker, then we
have the girl who escaped from the farm, then we
have the four or five girls who were released from
the cage, etcetera. And what bothered me even more
was that we didn't get to see what happened to all
of them, it felt like some of them were just there
to fill some running time - and I believe that one
of the girls got killed twice?
This was obviously a no-budget effort (we can even
spot the boom at the top of the screen a few times)
and it seems to me like they didn't really have a
script to work with. It basically felt as if they
were making up the story as they went along since
the red line was very thin. The acting was quite
dreadful as well and don't even get me started on
the directing. However, as I said before, I knew
that this was going to be a bad movie so I went in
with very low expectations and ended up at least
being entertained. It's not a good movie in any way
but considering all the rubbish which is being
released DTV these days, it could have been a whole
lot worse. If you like the concept of a blood ranch,
do rent Hoboken Hollow instead though.

Blood ranch? Yes. Gore ranch? No. We get an arm off,
a very fake-looking decapitated head and little more.

The sound effects were abysmal but the score could
have been worse. Hell, I even thought it was pretty
good at times. Best thing about this movie.

A movie like Blood Ranch is barely even necessary to
review since I think most of you are aware of the
fact that this wasn't going to be a good movie. I'm
still glad I did though as I think that it's better
than I had expected it to be. Decent to kill an hour
or so with but don't expect a deep plot.
