Beautiful Rayne, half vampire, half human, sets
out to kill her father for killing her mother.
On her way she meets many obstacles that she has
to overcome, will she be able to get her revenge
or will she die trying?

With just three theatrical movies, Uwe Boll has
worked up a really bad reputation for himself.
House Of The Dead was abysmal, in fact it was so
abysmal that there's now a "funny version" out
of it which is a ridiculing version of the same
movie. I guess, the production company realized
just how bad it was. Even so, House Of The Dead
has actually managed to spawn a sequel. After
beating the video game audience up with House Of
The Dead, Uwe took on Alone In The Dark which
I actually ended up enjoying. Alone In The Dark
was by no means a good movie, but it sure was a
whole lot of fun so I didn't really agree with
the heavy criticism that reviewers gave it. It
might not have been very true to the game and
Tara Reid did blow (no pun intended) but I still
ended up enjoying it for its cheesiness.
Bloodrayne is Uwe Boll's latest attempt at making
a video game adaptation and seeing as how they're
doing increasingly bad at the box office, one
would think that he would realize that it's time
to move onto something else. Either way, I have
to give him credit because he is improving. This
is definitely his best movie so far and it's far
from as cheesy as his previous two video game
adaptations. It's unfortunate that he's destroyed
his reputation completely among video game fans
because even though this pays just as little
respect to the game as his previous two films,
I actually think many video game fanatics would
enjoy this action-packed movie.
As expected, Bloodrayne is basically a 90 minute
action movie with lots of blood splatter. There's
very little story to be found in it and the
casting was just wrong. However, the pacing is
great through the entire movie and some of the
shots over the Romanian landscape are beautiful
(and somewhat Peter Jackson resembling). Maybe
people should start taking Boll movies for what
they are - action packed nonsense. Movies like
Bloodrayne don't need a complex story because
that's not what they're about. They're all about
entertaining the audience and Bloodrayne really
did manage to entertain me. I do however think
that many people went in wanting to hate the
movie just because of Uwe's previous works but
I think that this is one of the better video
game adaptations that I've seen so far (a whole
lot better than Doom).
Like I said before, the casting was just wrong.
The only person who belonged in this movie was
Kristanna Loken who really pulled it through. In
the end when she speaks to Matt Davis in a scene
that seems to be meant to be emotional it feels
like she's speaking to a dead carcass. I felt no
emotions what so ever and I really think that
Matt Davis was very weak throughout the whole
thing. Billy Zane has a pointless part in the
movie and it seems as if many of these actors
were only cast due to the star power and that's
just wrong. I mean, what the hell was Michelle
Rodriguez doing in here? I'm pretty sure that
there were no Puerto Rican girls in the eighteenth
century Romania, if I'm wrong please tell me.
In the end, Bloodrayne is Uwe's best movie to
date but he still fails at making us care for
the characters. He knows how to make entertaining
action sequences but when it comes to stories and
emotions, he kind of falls flat. It just felt
like Kristanna Loken was the only one who went
in full heartedly in this movie as everything
else felt... well, stiff (again, no pun intended).

Apparently, German gore master Olaf Ittenbach
was responsible for the gore effects in the movie
and one could tell. While there is loads of blood
splatter, decapitations, swords in eyes, slit
throats, etcetera, it all feels very cheap and
cheesy, just like Ittenbach's movies.

The soundtrack is very powerful and make the
first 20 minutes or so of the movie feel very
high budget. This score was just perfect.

Uwe's films are probably a whole lot more fun
for a 15-year old than for a 25-year old because
just like with his other movies, Bloodrayne
has very little story and a whole lot of action.
It's a whole lot better than his previous movies
and hell, this is very entertaining (I know many
of you will disagree with me) so give it a chance
and try to take it for what it is.
