In a world where terror reigns, the US military is working
on a new weapon; killer sharks. The sharks can be controlled
by commands given to them and will become the ultimate
weapon. But when the sharks escape, there seems to be no
stopping the sharks as they head out to attack innocent
people bathing in a lake.

You would think that companies would stop producing shark
horror flicks sometime, there are all ready hundreds of
them out there and very few are actually good. Blue Demon
somehow managed to make pretty good money of rentals but
I don't really see how. The story is nothing original, the
US government are creating killer sharks as a defence
weapon but when something goes wrong, the sharks start to
attack people. We have clichés taken from all big shark
horror flicks in this one. First of all, there's the obvious
fact that this tries to be a DTV version of Deep Blue Sea
with genetically manipulated sharks. Then we have the
classic shark beach scene which seems to be featured in
each and every single one of these cheap shark flicks. Then
there's a bunch of more stuff as well but I'll just stop
right here, I think you get the picture.
Michelle Pfeiffer's less talented sister, Dedee Pfeiffer
stars in this cheap flick as a scientist and she really
doesn't manage to pull it off. I guess that it wasn't
really possible though seeing as how the laboratory that
she works in looks like a children’s channel studio (no,
I'm not kidding). B-actor Randall Batinkoff actually does
manage to give the movie some credibility however since
he's clearly the most talented actor in this flick. The
directing is pretty standard for these creature features
as you might suspect as well.
So you're probably thinking, what's a PG-13 shark horror
flick like? Well, it's pretty much like every other shark
horror flick but without any gore or suspense at all and
with some funky music playing every now and then. The CGI
effects is probably the worst thing about the movie though.
The sharks look like they were taken right out of DreamWorks
animated children’s movie "Shark Tale" and the shots of the
golden gate are just hilarious.
Blue Demon does have a certain cheesy entertainment value
however and won't necessarily put you to sleep. I was
actually positively surprised as the trailer looked a whole
lot worse. It's not a good movie, but I've seen many worse
shark horror flicks than this one.

All we get is an arm off, which isn't all that bad
considering that the movie is rated PG-13.

Pretty funky soundtrack I have to say, not very suspenseful
but it might make you want to move around just a little.

Cheesy but still relatively enjoyable shark flick with awful
computer effects and terrible acting. The story is anything
but original and the clichés can be found everywhere. It's
not a good movie, but I have to say that even though it's
bad, it's more entertaining than I though that it would be.
