After their friend goes missing in the jungle, five
students decide to take a ride in a hot air balloon
to see if they can find him, but when a storm hits,
they end up in a tree and have to hike through the
dangerous jungle by foot. And just when they thought
that things couldn't get any worse, a giant killer
boa constrictor shows up.

Thailand might not have any idea on how to make a good
creature feature, but damn do they know how to sell one.
The posters for this atrocious killer snake movie
showed a giant snake munching away on a girl. I mean,
how could anyone not want to see this movie? You know
it's going to be bad but you just can't resist the
temptation. Unfortunately, Boa was even worse than I
could have ever imagined. Not because of the ludicrous
story, not because of the poor acting, but because of
the terrible CGI-effects.

You'd think that a theatrical creature feature would
have somewhat decent CGI-effects (at least on an
Anacondas 2 level), but Boa looks like the latest
Sci-Fi channel production. It's sloppily written, it's
filled with silly subplots and even though it is
packed with snake action, it's just not that exciting.
Sure, watching a giant snake throw a guy several feet
into the air might look cool (well it doesn't here
due to the poor CGI), but why would the snake do that?
This snake doesn't seem to kill for a reason (food
etc), it just kills for the hell of it, which makes
absolutely no sense at all.

Anyhow, the story revolves around five students who go
to look for their friend who disappeared in the jungle
a couple of days ago. They all decide that the best
way to this is by looking through the area from a hot
air balloon (!). This doesn't go quite as planned when
a sudden storm hits them, pushing them down into the
jungle (luckily for them, the storm ends as soon as
the balloon gets stuck in a tree). They have no other
option but to hike through the jungle and try to find
their friend by foot. It doesn't take long before their
search party is interrupted by a giant snake who starts
munching away on them.

Naturally we can't just have the five friends getting
eaten since someone needs to survive so a news team
heads out into the wilderness to track down the six
missing students (yes, whoever wrote this must have
had a wild imagination). And yes, you've guessed right,
the snake shows up and starts killing them too. So
what do we do when there are almost no persons left
for the boa to kill? We throw in a military rescue team,
and I think you know where this is going.

It's surprising how tedious and dull a movie about a
killer snake can be. Sure, Anacondas 2 wasn't great
but it beats the hell out of this movie. If this
would have been DTV, I could've accepted the poor
CGI-effects and the huge plot holes but this is a
theatrical horror movie and it should be better than
this. Don't let the cover fool you, it's an atrocious
movie, and deep down you probably all ready knew that.

A pretty cool snake death scene but that's about it.

Does it really matter?

Awful killer snake movie which fails to live up to its
awesome cover. It looks and feels more like a Sci-Fi
channel production than a theatrical creature feature,
that's how bad it is. Hopefully you won't get fooled
by the cover like I did. Trust me, you don't want to
see this one.
