As a child, Tim used to be scared of the boogeyman
and as his mother recently passed away he decides
to visit the house that he grew up in. It doesn't
take long before his memories start haunting him
again. Is the boogeyman out to get him or is it
all in his imagination? He seeks help from his
friend Kate but when she decides that he's just
being paranoid he realizes that he has to fight
this demon by himself, once and for all.

Oh my god, would you look at that! Once again has
the wonders of CG effects destroyed a perfectly
entertaining thriller. The Boogeyman tries to
copy the concept of Asian horror movies in just
about every possible way, except for the fact
that it doesn't include the long-haired ghost
girl. Instead they've decided to bring in a CGI
monster who lives in the closets, bad idea. See
the movie itself is pretty entertaining, it has
plenty of scares to keep you on the edge of your
seat and what it lacks in story it makes up in
scares. But the thing is, the movie is rated PG,
not PG-13, but actually PG and with the cheap
CGI effects, this really just feels like an
expensive episode of Goosebumps.
This is the second release from Sam Raimi's new
company Ghost House Pictures and it looks like
they're here to stay as it looks as if this will
be another hit like The Grudge. I hope that it
goes well for them as I love seeing ghost flicks
on the big screen but I hope that this was the
last PG horror flick we got to see in a while.
The directing looks good and it has many
similarities with Shimizu's directing in The
Grudge, I guess that might've been intentional
though. The acting is very average and I wasn't
very fond of the guy playing Tim but all in all
it was pretty all right.
Back to the story, which is very unoriginal by
the way. It's such a strange thing that this
has become such a hit since it's basically the
same movie as Darkness Falls, They, Darkness
etc etc, you know, the whole boogeyman concept.
It's kind of worn out in my opinion as Darkness
was the only good one out of those three (the
unrated that is, I feel sorry for those who
got quoted on that movie since they probably
saw the unrated version and not the hilariously
bad PG-13 cut which made absolutely no sense).
Boogeyman might scare the hell out of you a
couple of times with its cheap scares and jumps
but in the end, it falls flat with a predictable
and unoriginal story which is as thin as water.

It's rated PG, enough said.

I recently saw the horror movie Creep and it
almost seems as if the new trend is to have a
soundtrack as silent as possible as both of
these movies have a total lack of music. There
is some minor piano music but all in all I felt
like some violins might've been needed.

Ho-hum ghost flick with an unoriginal and thin
plot which occasionally makes us jump out of
our seats. It's a good flick for scares but
the CGI and lack of story flushed this script
down the drain. 12 year olds, please stick
to Goosebumps and leave horror movies alone
so that we can get some real horror again.
