Five friends go up to a cabin in the woods for a booze filled
weekend but before they know it, a mad man with a bloody face
is trying to get into their cabin. As they manage to push him
outside he decides to try to escape in their car but that does
it for the friends and they attack him with anything they can
find. This leaves their car smashed up and broken and not to
forget that they are now responsible for a mans death. It doesn't
take long for them before they realize that the man was infected
with some decease and now, not only fear is spreading among them
but also a deadly virus.

Cabin Fever is yet another gory retro slasher in the vein of
Wrong Turn and Hell's Highway. While many people consider this
to be a good thing, I'm a bit more sceptical. While both Wrong
Turn and Hell's Highway had good stories and such, Cabin Fever
is actually down-right stupid. The story isn't strong enough
to hold the movie together and there are just too many things
that remain unexplained throughout the movie. I am still very
disappointed in all big reviewers who have given this excellent
reviews since all that keeps your interest in this is the gore
and the unexpected twists that are thrown in everywhere just
to make us believe that the story isn't as predictable as we
think it is but in the end it was almost impossible not to
predict the movie.

I am also terribly disappointed when it comes to the acting
as the cast seem as though they have been picked up from the
street and have been handed out an acting for dummies book.
The directing is a different story though, I think that Eli
Roth has managed to give this movie a very cool retro feeling
and some scenes may remind you of the cult classic "The Evil
Dead", though this is far from as good as that.

I think that the main reason to why I only thought this was
an average horrormovie was that I had expected this to be a
kick-ass horrorfilm, not some stupid Scary Movie rip-off.
They have decided to throw in way too much stupid and black
humour into this movie and that made the premise feel even
more unrealistic. I've probably given you the impression that
I hated this movie, well that's not true at all, this is
very entertaining and so but I was just too frustrated about
the black comedy that was thrown in here to be able to enjoy
this to the fullest. Overrated horrormovie indeed.

Far from as gory as I had expected it to be. All we get is
basically some gory gunshots, a severed leg, some nasty
corpses and a screwdriver jammed into ones head.

...and the road leads to nowhere. Now where have I heard this
before? Oh yeah, Last House On The Left! Ofcourse this was a
pleasant surprise for me even if I generally dislike recycling
of other movies soundtracks so just hearing that track again
made this movie worth watching for me. Being a new film, we
also get the occasional rock and pop tunes aswell.

This is very entertaining but the black humour mixed in here
just didn't do it for me. I'd rather have a solid horrormovie
than an average horrormovie with a ending that makes absolutely
no sense at all. I think it's amazing that this movie actually
got a theatrical release as I consider this to be DTV material.
I still recommend it since it is entertaining though but don't
expect anything special.
