Mai is a
medical student who studies anatomy, but her
latest cadaver isn't an ordinary dead body. It doesn't
take long before Mai starts to have ghostly visions of
a woman following her. In order to stop this, she
starts investigating the truth about the dead woman.
Who was she? And what is she trying to tell Mai?

What an appropriate title. This movie is exactly what
the movie suggests, a cadaver. It's the dead remains
of some of the greatest Asian ghost movies out there.
The movie opens up with a nightmare sequence (the first
among several that can be found in this movie) that
made me realize that I was in for yet another dull and
clichéd ghost flick - and man was I ever so right. The
main movie that Cadaver rips off is Shutter (only in
this case it should be called Shitter) and it's not
exactly subtle. Every single scare in this movie seemed
to have been copied right out of Shutter.
Speaking of scares, Cadaver made the same fatal
mistake that The Grudge 2 made - it overcrowded itself
with cheap scares causing the movie to be anything but
scary. At least this goes for the first half of the
movie where the wimpy lead didn't seem to be calm in
a single frame. For the second half of the movie, the
movie takes a turn for the worse and drops all the
scare scenes and starts giving us a long and boring
back-story. The main problem here is that since we
were never properly introduced to any of the characters,
no one really cares what happened to the ghostly woman.
The entire plot is a mess as well and it's amazing how
they could make such a basic horror movie so confusing,
and it didn't help when the lead completely changed
appearances either (seriously, she went from a short
haired hottie to an annoying long-haired girl with
glasses in less than a minute - apparently she wore
a wig for the first half of the movie). I'm not going
to go over the plot in detail since it's pretty much
just a boring mess or a ghost jumping at the lead
every time she lies down to take a rest.
In the end, I think that they just went a bit overboard
with the whole concept. It could have been a creepy
movie, if far from original, but since they promptly
had to fill it with non-stop scares or unnecessary
dialogue, the result was less than good. I bet you
five bucks that all of you will have figured out the
ending after 20 minutes into the movie. That's how
predictable and basic this movie is. Please don't dig
this cadaver up, let it stay in the dirt where
it belongs.

No.

There was definitely nothing wrong about the soundtrack.
The strings were great and in another movie it would
probably have created a whole lot of atmosphere. This
movie didn't deserve a score as good as this.

Predictable, clichéd, unoriginal - what can I say? It
wasn't exactly an exciting ride. Cadaver was either
crammed with cheap scares or padded with unnecessary
dialogue and I highly suggest that you skip this one.
