A couple
of friends are brought to the hospital
after a basketball accident. They are treated
very nicely by all the candy stripers, in fact
they are treated too nicely. It seems as if all
of the girls want to get into the guys pants, but
what they don't know is that what's in their
pants is the least of their interests. Apparently,
the candy stripers have been taken over by an
alien life form and are here to get some sugar.

Remember how I absolutely loved Decoys? Well,
Candy Stripers is kind of like Decoys only without
the wit and the soul. The movie takes place in
a hospital where all of the candy stripers (which
I guess is a kind of nurse?) have been taken over
by aliens. Their eating habits are, to say the
least, a bit unusual as they are aggressively
addicted to sugar. Unfortunately for a couple of
students, they also turn out to be addicted to
men - but not in the good way.
While this is a great and original plot, I was
very disappointed to see that there was no
humour in it what-so-ever, which a movie like
this really needs. I mean, I guess they tried to
make it a horror comedy but it just didn't shine
through. The characters are all annoying stereotypes
and I always find it hard to root for jocks and
bimbos. What's even worse is that the candy
stripers never really got any characters at all,
they were just there to kill people and be
attractive while as the girls in Decoys got great
characters and you actually rooted for them.
Now, I might sound very negative towards this
movie but it's not all bad, not at all. The movie
has a very good pace, it's shot nicely and it's
definitely a treat for the eye. The acting is
decent even if the characters weren't and the
movie does look like it had a rather good budget,
which is always positive. As I said before, the
story is quite original (even if it's obvious
that it tried to copy Decoys) and it's simply
impossible to dislike a movie where hot alien
chicks go around killing men.
Candy Stripers certainly isn't for everyone and
I'm relatively sure that many people will hate it,
just like many people hated Decoys. But if you
have an open mind and can enjoy brainless films
such as Decoys, Candy Stripers is pretty enjoyable.
Perhaps this is more a movie for female horror
fans though as it's a bit of a chick flick.

There is some decent gore in this, we get a
ripped out heart, a slit throat, a decapitation
and some more.

Nothing special here, could have used a little
more "silly" score to make the comedy-side of the
movie shine through more.

Candy Stripers is a quite forgettable movie and
it's far from as good as I had hoped that it would
be. However, this was still an entertaining ride
and even if none of the characters are likable,
I'm a sucker for movies where hot chicks go on a
killing rampage. Check it out only if you're a fan
of the Canadian horror movie "Decoys".
