A group of
teens go camping in the woods. At first
everything seems fine but the party is soon disrupted
by a fat hillbilly serial killer who wants them out of
their woods. Will anyone survive?

I have to say, I find it really amusing when I come
across these low-budget slasher flicks that you often
find people in higher budget horror flicks sit and
watch. Usually the movies that these people watch are
made especially for the movie in question and would
never ever get made in real life, but Carver is
exactly like those kind of slasher flicks that's
so campy and by-the-numbers that it could have easily
been made simply as a prop for another horror flick.
What's not as funny is that this is no prop, this is
a 100 minutes long movie about a fat serial killer
(why are they always fat?? do they eat their victims
after chopping them up?) who's addicted to the song
"Turkey in the Straw".
The style of Carver is very resembling to Craig McMahon's
awful horror flicks Sportkill and Machined and it
wouldn't surprise me if director Franklin Guerrero Jr.
is his best friend. The one thing that's better about
Carver is that it's got gore - and a lot of it. The
killer doesn't do a whole lot of carving but the gore
effects are awesome and Franklin really managed to give
the movie that dirty feel that seems to be so popular
these days. I will also have to commend Franklin for
a job well-done when it comes to the directing. This
is really a big step up from his previous horror flick,
The 8th Plague, in terms of quality and directing.
I did however like The 8th Plague better since it was
more original and innovative than this.
When you head into a movie with a title like Carver,
you know that you're not in for a masterpiece but the
sad thing is, I really think that Carver could have
been a somewhat decent slasher had it tried to be a
little more innovative and had a different killer.
I am sick of watching fat hillbillies kill teens. In
fact, they shouldn't even be in horror flicks, they
should be participating on The Biggest Loser. Anyhow,
Carver will most likely please gore fans and it is
watchable, I will give it that. It's not a complete
train wreck but it also not something you'd watch more
than once. Only worth checking out if you're a hardcore
slasher and gore fan and like low-budget indie
productions with close to no story at all.

We get decapitations, a saw in the head, a nail in the
head (loved this scene), a face bashed in and a whole
lot more. Make sure you check out the uncut version.

If I never hear the song "Turkey in the straw" again,
I will seriously die a happy man.

It's not completely awful but it isn't good either.
It's another fat serial killer killing teens in the
woods film and it doesn't do anything new with the
concept. The twists are ridiculously predictable and
the only thing this movie has going for it is the
gore and perhaps the looks of the movie (yes the movie
does look better technically than many other DTV flicks).
