A genetically engineered Tasmanian devil escapes
when two animal activists try to release it into
the wild. Meanwhile, a couple of friends are
shooting a low-budget zombie flick at a graveyard,
unaware of the fact that the carnivorous creature
is lurking in the tunnels beneath them, waiting
to attack anyone who comes near his new territory.

Not since the 80s have I seen a creature feature
of this calibre. During the past couple of years
I've had to sit through countless amounts of cheesy
creature features with a CGI-animated animal killing
people at random. Well the company behind Cemetery
Gates seem to really know what they're doing. This
is the second feature film from Graveyard Filmworks,
who also produced the excellent movie "Boo", and
I can't wait to see what they'll do next. They're
actually bringing high-quality horror to DVD,
something which very few companies seem to do
these days, and Cemetery Gates sure deserved to get
at least a limited theatrical release if you ask me
as this is way to good to be DTV.

The movie revolves around a group of students who
are shooting the opening scene for a no-budget
zombie movie at a cemetery. Beneath them hides a
giant creature which has got a taste for flesh,
and this isn't just any killer creature, this is
probably the most vicious creature I've ever seen.
There's not a single moment of this film where you
find yourself bored, the pace is just brilliant
with a deliciously high body count and incredible
amounts of gore. The acting is decent but all of
the characters are very shallow, which surprisingly
enough didn't bother me at all. Since there are
so many people getting killed in this movie, you're
too busy focusing on the action scenes to really
care about the characters.

Perhaps I'm being a little bit over-enthusiastic,
but this is a movie made with only one purpose;
entertain the viewer. I laughed, I jumped, I ate
popcorn and I had a blast throughout the entire
movie. It manages to find that delicate balance
between comedy and horror which is very hard to
find and comes out feeling almost flawless. I'm
not going to say anything more about this flick
now because I think I've convinced you to check
this movie out by now. A delicious mix of gore and
laughs, what more can you ask for?

Where do I start? It's got a whole lot of blood
splatter, body parts being thrown into the air,
guts getting ripped out, decapitations and so much
more. Oh I just love it!

Pretty standard stuff here, didn't really notice
it a lot. Good enough but nothing spectacular.

Cemetery Gates is THE film to see this year. If
you're going to check out a creature feature make
sure it's this one as it's got everything a horror
fan could wish for. I loved every minute of it and
I think that most of you will agree with me that
this is a brilliant horror flick.

this is absolutely the GORIEST creature feature i have ever seen in my life, and now it is one my all-time favorites...at times it can be over the top cheesy and the actors needed to go back to their coaches in a bad way...in fact the lameass acting is the only thing that hurt this film...other than that this one has it all...gallons of gore galore...nasty creatures...comedic relief...oh, and naked chicks...formula complete!...this film may have some up short on acting but stands on all fours above the rest of the sorry ass creature films out there...

It was just okay, didn't bore me, but wasn't that exciting or fun.

AnthroFred, I'm beginning to wonder what constitutes a good movie in your opinion. I mean this movie just sucked. The effects were inconsistent at best, and the creature looked ridiculous. The acting was horrible, and the story very weak, which can be ok in a comedy type horror flick, but this wasn't even funny, not even in a dumb way.

An ok film, flooded with gore and a fun creature: but haven't we seen GRAVEYARD SHIFT (from Stephen King) in 1990 ? Cast of nobodies and awful direction don't help. Except Reg Bannister...he rules ! NOT mentioned from Anthro !! THE film to watch this year ?? Bah.

Oh...what might have been. This flick is being WAY too generously (over)rated by horror websites. Yes...the creature is cool and the killings are as gory as hell...but the characters are so incredibly childish and lame that it really puts a damper on the rest of the film. There's the sterotypical dumb blonde, the moronic backwoods boys, and the immature dope fiends. All are so ridiculously stupid that I can't see how anybody over 18 could not let it affect their opinion of the film. If there had been some real characters that weren't so lampoonish the movie would have been a classic. And the cemetery locale is woefully underused. As it is I feel it misses the mark. That's too bad - the concept is cool but I expected a whole lot more after reading reviews like Fred's.
