Nasrin is
severely injured after having crashed with
her car and is afraid that her fiancé will stop loving
her due to her scars. And when her mother finds an old
mirror in the closet, an evil spirit is let loose and
uses Nasrin's fear to control her. Possessed by an
angry spirit, Nasrin has to struggle to stay sane, but
it's not easy when the villagers start turning against
her. Will she loose her boyfriend, or even worse, will
she loose herself?

Chermin is yet another story about evil spirits and
demon possessions and this time the ghost lives inside
an antique mirror. Yeah, I know, very original, right?
Chermin actually translates into Mirror if anyone
cares, but I bet most of you have stopped reading by
now. If not, here is a short review for this cheap
and cheesy Malay horror flick.
Nasrin and Yusuf are engaged to get married but one
night when Nasrin is driving in her car, she sees a
ghost in her backseat which causes her to end up in a
horrible car accident. Why she sees this ghost I don't
know, nor is it ever explained, because later on it
seems as if this ghost only lives inside an antique
mirror. Anyhow, she ends up getting a horrible scar
on her cheek (or more like a shallow flesh wound if
you ask me, which should have healed by the time that
she got out of the hospital more or less) and refuses
to see her fiancé as she is afraid that he will no
longer love her due to her scarred cheek (gee, as if
anyone would actually be that shallow - again, it's
a silly little flesh-wound).
To put Nasrin in a better mood, her mother gives her
an antique mirror. Perhaps not the best of gifts since
the mirror is possessed by an evil spirit consumed by
jealousy. From here on the movie shifts from present day
to telling the back-story of the spirit every now and
then. The problem is, neither of the two stories are
very intriguing. Anyway, Nasrin starts getting possessed
by the spirit and in the end they have to perform an
exorcism on her (why not, it's not like they were
aiming at originality here anyway). The exorcism lasts
for about 30 seconds and that's pretty much the climax.
Oh no, did I just ruin the movie for you? Well don't
worry, it's such a predictable movie that you would
have figured all of this out after five minutes anyway.
Chermin is a passable movie though, it's not good but
it has a decent pace and keeps you watching. Naturally
I can't recommend it even though it was fairly easy to
get through it simply because it's yet another generic
Asian horror movie with no sign of originality or
atmosphere in it. Seriously, there's not a single
even remotely suspenseful scene to be found in here.
If you're looking for a cheap scare, Chermin is not
the movie for you. If you're looking for a good story,
Chermin is not the movie for you. If you're looking
for a generic movie filled with spirits, exorcisms and
clichés on the other hand, you've come to the right place.

Some minor blood, nothing worth mentioning.

Aggressive drums which try to set a good mood but fail
miserably since the story is just so silly.

Generic Malay horror flick which makes no effort in
trying to be original at all. There's really not a
whole lot more to say than that, I feel as if I've
reviewed the same movie hundreds of times before.
That should give you an idea of what kind of movie
this is - in other words, skip it.
