Jennifer has recently inherited a big house in which her
grandmother still lives. Despite her grandmothers love for
the house, Jennifer has decided to sell it as she needs the
money. But when Jennifer starts having nightmares about a
crow ripping out her body parts, things get difficult. Even if
they only seem to be dreams, the body parts are actually
missing when she wakes up. Is there any way to stop this
"curse" or will Jennifer die in the house just like the rest
of her family did?

I always get suspicious when a new DTV flick that I've never
heard of before pops up in my mail box. But as soon as I
started watching Chronicles Of The Raven I realized that I
had in fact heard of this before, many times, but under a
different title, namely Jennifer's Shadow. I had been
looking forward to seeing this movie for ages so as soon as
I realized which movie I was watching I got very excited.
I was under the impression that I was in for a ghost flick
about a ghost in the attic. Well I was wrong, this is
anything but a ghost flick. Chronicles Of The Raven is a
very strange and very original movie with a creepy
atmosphere that brings ones mind to Edgar Allan Poe.
Maybe it was due to the fact that the entire movie revolved
around evil ravens but I think it was the way that the
movie was built up that made me think of Mr. Poe.

Gina Philips is a terrific actress and since she's the
centre of the movie it's a good thing that she is. Her
character is believable and even though her character is
a tad bitchy, you can't help but to like her and root
for her. The only thing that bothered me about her character
was that we didn't get to know her well enough in the
beginning. This is actually one of those movies which
could have benefited of being slower in the beginning,
ten minutes longer would have been enough to build up
her character more. Faye Dunaway is also a terrific
supporting actress even though she overacts every now and
then, though this is pretty good for her character.

Chronicles Of The Raven is a really solid and original
horror flick and I really truly enjoyed it but there's
something about it that I didn't like. I was on the edge
of giving this a rating of four but when the climax came
and everything was revealed I couldn't help feeling that
I wanted more. They simply could have done so much more
with it as that was the only thing that felt predictable
about the entire movie. I was hoping that my predictions
were wrong but when they were confirmed I ended up being
disappointed which is why this only got a rating of three.
Still, this is a very good DTV flick so don't miss it.

A raven pecking out various body parts is basically what
we get, didn't need any more gore though.

Beautiful piano music that fits the movie perfectly along
with creepy violin music to create the perfect atmosphere.
This should have gotten a limited theatrical release in
my opinion, or at least a nice widescreen presentation.

Lions Gate are dumping lots of horror flicks DTV these
days and while some of them don't even deserve the discs
that they're on, some of them belong in theatres, this
is one of them. I found this flick to be very original
and intriguing but the climax just didn't do it for me.
Still, you need to see this one as it's something else.
