John and Mort are hard working cops, they're on
the hunt for a guy who calls himself Einstein
but it seems as if it's impossible to catch him.
When Mort gets infected by a parasite which
brings him "special" strength, John and Mort
decides to get rid of the bad guys for good.
What John doesn't know is that Morts "blessing"
is not interested in laws, the creature inside
of Mort has a pure craving for blood...

Cold & Dark can be described as a supernatural
action thriller influenced by "Alien". The
story really doesn't give you much of an idea
of how the movie really is though as it's hard
to describe a movie like Cold & Dark but I'll
do my best to describe my feelings towards it.

Lately we've learnt that the British can either
make absolutely abysmal horror flicks (London
Voodoo comes to mind) or original takes on an
old theme (such as Dog Soldiers). And luckily
once again they've succeeded in making the
last mentioned.

This new British flick is original, entertaining
and gory as hell, in other words, this movie
kicks ass. The story is cleverly written with
few flaws and great directing and acting. The
relationship between John and Mort feels realistic
and even if Mort becomes "evil", you can't help
but to root for him as well, just because you
had learnt to know him before he got infected.
This was a very clever move as making us root
for the bad guy always keeps us more interested.

The movie does have its weak sides as well
though. The movie is very predictable, some
things make absolutely no sense at all and
some scenes just feel out of place, almost as
if they were supposed to be somewhere else in
the movie. These flaws are easy to overlook
though as they never feel like big issues and
it's difficult not to long for director Andrew
Goth's next horror flick, The Wretched.

As I mentioned earlier, it's hard to describe
something indescribable and describing Cold
& Dark would be like describing the flavour
of fish for someone who never tried it. All
I can say is that you better start searching
for this one as this is definitely not a
horror flick you will want to miss, especially
not if you like movies like "Aliens".

This is what I'm talking about! A gory hook
impalement, a gory hole in ones stomach, several
gory dead bodies including one which has been
decapitated and a whole lot more!

Richard Fox and Lauren Yason stands for the
original music in the movie which couldn't have
been a hard job as the soundtrack feels very
absent even if we do get the occasional
atmospheric music. Didn't need a stronger score
and survived well without it though.

Hugely entertaining horror thriller for any
fan of alien movies. I suggest that you try
to track down a copy of this as soon as
possible as it's a very good flick and even
if you might not love it as much as I did,
I know most of you will at least like it.

Congrats for getting your name & quote on the front of the dvd cover "Gory as Hell". So, were you on something when you wrote that review.

The Gore - blood sprayed throught a peephole. two, three corpses with the chests opened up and that crappy hand snake thing.

I'm glad AnthroFred enjoyed this film and wish I could have got as much out of it as he did. I accept it's well made, but it is just so tedious and nonsensical. Don't get me wrong - I love gore and the effects in this movie are great, but I just found I couldn't really care and was aching for the end.
