A young
couple, Praeploy and Pongpob, rushes into
marriage and moves to Pongpob's mother after Praeploy
realizes that she's pregnant. The peace and quiet is
soon interrupted though when their neighbours house
catches fire, and their neighbour burns to death. This
chocking experience causes Praeploy to go into labor
and moments later, a child is born. Things go from bad
to worse when they realize that their son has a bad
case of colic. There's not a moment of silence as the
boy cries constantly. What they don't know is that his
crying is due to something much, much worse.

If you thought that the kid in "The Omen" was a parents
worst nightmare - think again! Colic is 90 minutes of
constant, hysterical child crying, and while it's
effective at first, it soon becomes as annoying as one
could expect it to be. This new Thai ghost movie isn't
your typical Asian ghost flick though. There's no long-
haired ghost girl with freaky eyes and the story is
surprisingly original. Unfortunately, there's also very
little suspense to be found in here and only one or two
really good scares. For most of the time, this was
actually a very dull horror flick.
The story revolves around a young couple who have just
moved to Pongpob's mother on the country to be able to
give their newborn son a better childhood. Their idyllic
new home might not be so idyllic after all though as
their son just won't stop crying. The doctors explain
that he's simply got a normal case of colic and that
it will pass after 3 to 6 months. Unfortunately for
them, it doesn't - it only gets worse. Strange things
soon start to occur around the couple and they realize
that there might be something more to their sons
crying than what meets the eye. Could evil spirits
be after them? Or are they just paranoid?
Thai horror movies are usually either a hit or a miss,
and for some reason I expected Colic to be a hit.
Perhaps this is the reason why I'm so disappointed in
it. Colic is an incredibly slow-paced horror movie,
and even if it's got a mildly suspenseful ending, it
doesn't make up for the fact that we've had to sit
through 70 minutes of unnecessary dialogues and annoying
baby-crying. In fact, after an hour into the movie,
I started to doubt that anything would ever actually
happen. The spirits appear in the form of a green fog
and are anything but scary. The few jump scenes that
we get are the result of too loud sound effects, and
the suspenseful twist ending is the only thing that
doesn't feel original.
Despite a good premise, Colic failed to impress me.
It had a lot of potential but ended up feeling like
a poor mix of Final Destination and The Omen - only
without the gore. The only ones who should watch this
are teenage girls because I've never been so put off
to having a baby before, but other than that, I see
no reason to why you should bother with this one.

Some blood splatter, nothing special.

Cheap score which sounded like it came from some bad
DTV Grudge rip-off.

This was just too slow-paced and eventless for my taste.
While Colic might have a pretty original story, it
fails to live up to its potential and ends up being a
complete snore-fest. The only good thing about the
movie was the ending, and that was also the only thing
that felt unoriginal so if I were you, I'd skip this one.
