Upon a mutual childhood friend's death, six friends
reunite at his funeral and decide to grant his last
by going to his house and look in some trunk. In that
trunk they find a surprise; the body of a dead girl.
Soon enough, the friends start having flashbacks from
when they were kids and a terrifying secret is revealed.

Here we are with another one of the eight films too
crappy for the general audiences. This year I've kept
my reviews for these films relatively short and why
stop with a winning concept ey? There's not a lot to
say about this obviously-meant-for-DTV horror movie
but I will tell you this, I was ready to go to sleep
more than once throughout this movie. The story is
poorly written and is far from believable, the
characters are flat and the scares just didn't work
for me. Perhaps due to all the flashy effects that
were probably meant to make the movie look higher
budget than it actually was. But not to worry, the
low grade production shines through.

The story revolves around six friends who used to call
themselves the crazy eights as kids. The seventh of
them has just passed away and the eights one they seem
to have lost all memory of. Anyway so they go to the
deceased's house only to find the corpse of a dead
girl. Shortly thereafter they find themselves trapped
inside an old orphanage where apparently they grew up
(even though no one remembers this either). They also
don't seem to remember that they were experimented on
or that they were responsible for the death of their
eights friend. Naturally the ghost of the dead girl
has returned (for whatever reason) to take revenge on
the six remaining friends. Only she hasn't returned
in the form of a sweet little ghost girl a la The Ring,
she's returned as some hideous monster with extremely
long finger nails. Make sense? Thought not.

What bothered me about Crazy Eights was that this had
all the potential in the world to be a great and
creepy movie, but the movie was so over-stuffed by
strange background music that was more sleep-inducing
than scary that it drew away from the atmosphere.
Then we have the six characters which are extremely
flat but are portrayed by six very talented actors.
All of these actors know how to act so why wouldn't
they utilize this more? The directing is also okay and
there are two vaguely interesting death scenes in it.
Ultimately though, Crazy Eights is just another DTV
ghost flick that won't be remembered for long. It fails
to deliver the goods and even though it's one of the
better movies from this years After Dark Horror fest
(I know right!), it still doesn't cut it.

A jaw ripped open.

It's not that it's bad, it's just so repetitive, bland
and soothing that it completely fails to create a good
atmosphere for the movie.

It was watchable, I'll give it that. It had some redeeming
qualities about it and the plot outline wasn't half
bad. It was everything else about it that was just
bland and boring. I'll give it some credit for the
story and cast but that's about it.
