A 20-feet long
crocodile is terrorizing a small town
in Thailand that lives off of its tourism. Jack, owner
of the local zoo, decides to try to catch this croc
but it's not easy when his shady neighbour is trying
to run him out of business. Luckily for Jack, a man
named Croc Hawkins shows up to try to save the day.
But will they succeed?

Here's another one for the pile of atrocious killer
crocodile flicks of 2007. Croc premiered on the Sci-Fi
channel some time ago but even they didn't bother to
promote it very much and it kind of slipped under the
radar. Now, Genius Entertainment is releasing it on
DVD as part of the Maneater series and it did seem as
if this would be one of the better movies in this
atrocious creature feature series. Well, it's not. If
anything it may be one of the worst movies out of the
bunch. Completely shot in Thailand, Croc has so many
flaws that it's not even funny... well, it's actually
kind of funny to be honest with you but for now let's
get into the plot.
Jack runs a zoo in a small village in Thailand where
apparently everyone speaks English. Not just in one
dialect but they seem to have a wide variety of
accents in this community as some speak American,
some speak British, some speak Australian and some
simply read off of cue cards since they don't speak
any English at all. It felt as if they just threw a
group of random tourists together (some even have to
play two parts) and picked out any Thai person who was
good enough at English. Obviously some of these people
didn't understand a word of what they were saying but
that was just a whole lot of fun. Anyway, back to Jack,
one of the three American actors in this flick, his
neighbour is currently trying to run him out of
business so that he can build a big building of some
sort there instead and will do whatever it takes
to make this come true.
Meanwhile, an oversized crocodile is terrorizing the
small community and Jack is determined to stop it
while he's also falling for some Thai girl (this
movie definitely adds to the prejudice that all Thai
girls want to marry a rich white man). It seems as
if he's failing at this task when out of nowhere,
Croc Hawkins shows up. Now how appropriate is that
name? He's hunting a killer croc and his name is Croc?
You can't make this stuff up people! Anyway, Croc
(the hunter, not the animal) is played by a tired
Michael Madsen whose career is quickly going downhill
after some bad movie choices. Okay, BloodRayne was a
career-killer for anyone involved in that movie but
I really thought that Michael, if anyone, would be
able to redeem himself. Well he won't do so by taking
acting gigs like this.
Now one thing that I have appreciated with most movies
in the Maneater series is that there has been minimal
usage of CGI-effects, the animals are for most of the
time real. This is also the case with Croc but the
problem is that several shots of the croc looks like
stock footage. In fact, I'm actually pretty sure that
at least 60% of the crocodile shots were stock footage.
The crocodile does look pretty good in action though,
I'll have to admit that. Seriously though, they should
have just made this movie in Thai language and aimed
for a Thai theatrical release instead since it was just
painful to watch these poor "actors" try to speak
English - even with each other despite the fact that
they both have Thai as a maiden language. Don't expect
anything to make much sense. It's got some amusing
scenes but it's just not a good movie.

We get some severed limbs and a severed head.

Even this seemed to have been made by a Thai person
as the soundtrack sounded very much like some Thai
DTV flicks that I've seen. Awful.

Croc is beyond ridiculous. Seriously, it has so many
problems that I don't even know where to start. It's
yet another unimpressive killer croc flick and I'm
really starting to get enough of them. None of the
killer croc movies this year have been successful so
why are they still spewing these movies out?
