A couple of teens go to an island to be in the hit
TV-show "Paradise Lost" in hope for winning a hundred
thousand dollars. Well, by entering the island they
have awakened the spirit of a bloodthirsty pirate
called Red Blood. Soon the question of who wins the
money isn't so big anymore, instead, the question of
who survives seems more important.

After recently having seen the pirate slasher flick
"Jolly Roger: Massacre At Cutters Cove", CrossBones
didn't feel as original as it really is. The story
is far from as good as the one in Jolly Roger though.
The story revolves around a reality TV-show (which
is a pure Survivor rip-off) that goes way out of hand
when the spirit of a vicious pirate awakens and starts
to kill the contestants one by one. As you can hear,
it's a very ludicrous movie, we don't even get an
explanation to how the pirates soul was awakened,
he just seems to be there all of a sudden, even though
he was killed hundred of years ago by some cannibal
natives (who spoke ghetto American by the way).
This is yet another low budget production from Lions
Gate films that has failed to impress me. While the
directing and photography is relatively good, the
shots which are supposed to be filmed for the TV-show
(there's a REC sign in the corner of the screen so
that we know that it's being shot for the show) are
very bad and shaky so it doesn't really look like
a hit TV-show. Also, it was very dull to see the
characters getting interviewed for the show as we
get over 15 minutes of constant interviews. I mean,
at first it's a pretty nice touch, but it quickly
gets very dull.
Crossbones has gotten some terrible reviews online,
but all in all, I didn't think it was all that bad.
It does have a relatively original story and even
though the movie is filled with plot holes, it does
show some potential. The pirate-killer is pretty
pathetic though and far from as cool as the one
in Jolly Roger. If you feel like checking out a
killer pirate slasher flick, I suggest you get Jolly
Roger: Massacre At Cutters Cove before you get this
one as that one is much more entertaining and looks
as if it had a higher budget.

We get a slit throat, and some eyes gouged in, this
pirate doesn't seem to be all that brutal after all.

Naturally we get a lot of drums since it's supposed
to be a killer pirate movie. The soundtrack works
pretty well and I wouldn't have done it in any other '
way as it works quite well.

Pretty dumb killer pirate flick with less to offer
than "Jolly Roger". Still, it's not all that bad and
it is mildly entertaining at moments. This is
definitely not one that you have to check out but
Lions Gate sure has released a whole lot of worse
movies than this one.
