Four college students decide to do their class project
around a local cult. Things quickly start getting out
of hand when people around them start dying mysterious
deaths where they stab themselves in the eyes. Could
this have something to do with their class project?
They soon discover a world of supernatural powers and
an evil that has been waiting to be set free.

The use of the word "sacrifice" in a horror flick is,
to me, a sign that the movie is quite corny - and Cult
uses this word as often as it can. Well guess what?
Cult turned out to be extremely corny. From the director
of the fairly entertaining b-movie "Ghost Game" (not
to be confused with the horrible Thai movie with the
same title) comes this cheesy and clichéd supernatural
horror flick where a school project goes out control
(ooh, never seen that before).

Mindy and three of her friends decide to do their
class project around a local cult that disappeared
a couple of years ago, only to find out that it's
only been waiting for an opportunity to come back.
Soon enough their classmates start committing suicide
by stabbing themselves in the eyes (which was an
important process of the cult). Could Mindy and her
friends be next?

Cult is technically much better than Ghost Game and I'm
sure director Joe Knee was thrilled to be able to cram
a bunch of cheap special effects into the movie as
well as hire a solid cast. Unfortunately, the story
simply isn't very good. It's generic and predictable
and feels like a bad TV-movie from the 90s (The Club
comes to mind). In fact, it's probably a good thing
that Joe had a better production budget for this movie
since the only things that make this watchable is the
decent acting and camerawork.

For whatever reason, I just couldn't find myself getting
into the movie. For 80 minutes I sat in my couch,
thinking about all kinds of worldly things rather
than paying much interest to the story. I guess it's
because we've all seen it before - and this has never
been a very good concept. If you're a fan of horror
flicks with supernatural cults in them, this might
appeal to you, but it wasn't really my cup of tea.

Bloody stabbings mainly.

The score was decent though nothing special.

Just because you've got a higher budget doesn't mean
that the result is going to be better and Cult is the
proof of that. It's got everything going for it
except for the story. It's just not that interesting.
We've all seen this before and I personally never
liked the concept in the first place.
