A group of
scientist students head out to the infamous
prison, Alcatraz, to investigate the mysterious
remains of a native American that have recently been
discovered only to unleash a horrible curse that has
been waiting for several years to get released from
the prison. Soon enough, the students start turning
up dead, one by one...

This is not a ghost movie just so you know, Curse Of
Alcatraz is a pure slasher flick and an incredibly
bad one at that. The first thing that I noticed about
this movie was how surprisingly low-rent it was
considering that it's supposed to be the very last
film shot in the Alcatraz prison. I assumed that most
of the budget had went into renting the prison but
I eventually realized that these guys can't have had
a very good budget to begin with as it seemed as if
only about 10% of the movie was shot inside the prison
while the rest of the movie was shot inside some old
warehouse or something. To make matters even worse,
it seemed as if they had been limited to shoot these
10% in one or two corridors of the entire prison.
I may be wrong though, maybe the entire movie was shot
inside the prison but I hope not because that'd mean
that these guys seriously under-utilized the facilities.
Not money well spent. Anyway, these are the least of
the problems with this movie because the plot is just
a big mess if you ask me. Someone finds a skeleton
inside a cell in Alcatraz and the one (!) cop that
shows up to check it out decides to call in a team of
archaeologist students or whatever since they work
for free (oh come on). This may all seem very overwhelming
for a couple of students but luckily for them, not a
single newspaper seems to be interested in this scoop.
Are you for real? Seriously, a mysterious corpses is
found inside Alcatraz and not a single magazine shows
up to cover the story? I think not.
Anyway, so apparently the corpse is cursed and some
evil virus starts spreading, causing people to kill
each other. Oh it's not nearly as entertaining as it
sounds. In fact it's really quite dull. It's actually
rather impressive how you can make such a notorious
prison seem to dull. The only reason that this movie
found distribution is clearly due to the fact that it
was shot inside Alcatraz because to me this might as
well have been an Ulli Lommel flick. It's slow-paced,
it's got a ludicrous plot, a terrible cast and there's
just nothing even remotely intriguing about it. Skip
this low-rent DTV flick and don't get fooled by the
tagline because you won't get to see much of Alcatraz
in here, believe you me.

Some stabbings and some guts, nothing very gory.

It was monotonous and uninspired. I've got nothing
more to say.

Ludicrous slasher flick with a low budget and several
annoying flaws. When the movie was finally over I was
so mentally exhausted that I had to watch a re-run of
Friends just to clear my mind before reviewing it.
That's how dull it is. Unoriginal and slow-paced slasher
flick that I refuse to recommend. Don't waste your time
no matter how much you love Alcatraz movies.
