It's prom night and everyone's looking forward to
the night that they'll remember forever. What
no one knows is that they'll remember it for all
the wrong reasons as the dead have come back to
life - and they're starving for a good party. Now
it's up to a bunch of losers who couldn't attend
the dance for various reasons to contain the
infection before it gets out of control.

These days it's easy to leave the DTV zombie flicks
sitting on the shelves since most of them are
horrendously generic, and with a title like Dance
Of The Dead, it doesn't really stand out as
an original venture into the zombie genre does it?
Well, Dance Of The Dead may not be very original
but man is this an entertaining zombie movie if
I ever saw one. This is the zombie flick of the
year and can best be described as Return Of The
Living Dead for the new generation. It's got witts,
it's got gore and it's got a terrific story. Here's
one zombie flick that dares to take the genre
seriously (no, it is not a horror comedy) and does
so brilliantly. Seriously, this has got to be
the best zombie flick since Dawn Of The Dead (the
remake that is) and that's saying a lot seeing how
many zombie flick we've gotten over the past
couple of years.

Dance Of The Dead takes place on prom night and
follows a bunch of prom night rejects as they
struggle to survive while zombies are taking over
their small community. These are all genuinely
likeable characters and there's not a single
annoying person to be found (well there is one
but he's offed first). I also really loved how
the zombies just flew out of their graves and
started running right away, it was so refreshing
to see these classic zombie scenes that we haven't
seen in forever. I mean, really, when was the last
time that we actually saw zombies rise from the
graves? That's what I thought. Dance Of The Dead
really brings zombie flicks back to their roots
and feels like an instant classic.

Gregg Bishop obviously didn't have the highest of
budgets to work with but that doesn't prevent him
from doing magic behind the camera. This really
is an up-and-coming director seeing as how his DTV
horror flick The Other Side was also surprisingly
entertaining. The acting is also above DTV-average
and I was overall really impressed by how
professional everything about the movie felt.
This teen zombie-flick is the best zombie flick
to come out in ages and even though I'm generally
sick of zombie movies, I still couldn't help but
to fall in love with this one. This is definitely
a movie that you have to check out as soon as
possible. Ghost House Underground really brought
us some terrific titles this time around, let's
hope that they'll continue this sub label.

This was a bloodbath. We get severed limbs,
a guy chopped in half, impalements, decapitations,
a head split in half and a whole lot more.

Competent rock score but nothing special.

Dance Of The Dead is one of the best zombie flicks
that I've seen in years that actually dares to take
the zombie concept seriously. Even though this is
a worn-out genre, I'm definitely going to recommend
this zombie flick as it's surprisingly great and
definitely not one to be missed.
