Julie and
Allen lost their daughter a couple of months
ago and has rented a cabin in the country to try to
forget what happened. Unfortunately for them, it seems
as if the cabin is haunted. It turns out that everyone
who's lived there has committed suicide, why is this
and what do the ghosts want with Julie and Allen?
Are they trying to tell them something or are they
just trying to scare them?

Technically superior to Brian Avenet-Bradley's previous
horror movie "Ghost Of the Needle", Dark Remains
still failed to surpass it story wise. Ghost Of The
Needle is one of the best indie horrors that I've
ever seen so I had expected Brain's next movie to be
even better. Maybe I just had my expectations set
too high. Either way, I'll try to review this without
comparing it to Ghost Of The Needle too much.
While most DTV horror directors make cheap copies
of Hollywood hits, Brian walks his own path. Sure,
some might consider this to be a The Grudge rip-off
but let's face it, Dark Remains is pretty much a
sequel to Ghost Of The Needle which also had elements
of Asian horror in it. This is a genuinely creepy
ghost movie and when I didn't hide behind my pillow
I was jumping high up from my couch. It's got all
the right elements and the suspense level is high
throughout the entire movie.
However, I did feel that the quick flashes of creepy
ghosts were overused. Half of them would have been
enough for me as they didn't even scare me after a
while since I had seen them so many times all ready.
Also, the movie does have some pacing problems and
it was hard for me to stay interested towards the
ending, which just wasn't strong enough. That's all
the negative things that I have to say about this
movie though because other than that,
this was pretty damn good.
The acting is, over-all, much better than in Brian's
previous movies even though there are some exceptions
and I can't wait to see what Brian has in store for
us next. Hopefully he'll try to do something a little
bit different next time as I felt like this was a bit
too inspired by his previous movie but either way,
I'm sure it will turn out great. Don't miss this one
if you're a fan of ghost movies.

There's a little blood but nothing major (a bloody
dead kid might be worth looking out for though).

It's a ghost movie, naturally we get piano music.
The score is effective and works very well, feels
very professional as well. Two thumbs up.

A classic ghost story with a couple of clever twists.
It was nice to see a purely American ghost movie
for once even though Brian obviously got some
inspiration from Asian movies as well. You should
definitely be on the look-out for this if you're a
fan of creepy ghost stories, it scared me half to death.
