Cathy and
her friends are on a road trip and decide
to save some money by spending the night inside an
amusement park attraction called "Dark Ride".
According to the legend, the amusement park was shut
down after two girls were found brutally murdered.
What the friends don't know is that the psychopath
who murdered these girls has escaped from the asylum
and has returned to his home...

Hell yeah! You can say what you want about mainstream
slasher flicks but these kind of movies were the
reason why I became a reviewer! Dark Ride is everything
a modern slasher should be. It's got a masked killer
who's just escaped from an asylum, it's got a hot
teen cast, it's got a creepy setting and it's got
gallons of gore! Sure, this might have been a bigger
hit back in the late 90's, but I for one have missed
these slashers and I'm happy to see that Lions Gate
are bringing them back.
The story is very classic and was obviously inspired
by Tobe Hooper’s brilliant slasher flick "The Funhouse".
It revolves around six friends who are on their way
to Cleveland if I remember correctly. To save some
money they decide to spend the night at an abandoned
amusement park, and naturally inside the haunted house.
It takes a while before anything happens but when
our killer shows up, he shows no mercy. With a giant
machete he starts killing the friends off one after
the other in various gory ways.
It was nice to see that the budget for this movie was
quite decent. The cinematography is great and it
really does feel like a movie which should be in the
theatres (I'd choose this over See No Evil any day).
The directing is also really good (and you can tell
that director Craig Singer has done his slasher home
work), some scenes reminded me a bit of Valentine,
but it could just have been the mask. The acting is,
well it's acceptable. They didn't have very complex
characters to work with so it is what it is.
Dark Ride really was one hell of a ride. It lived up
to all of my expectations and even went beyond that.
This is definitely a crowd pleaser and if you enjoy
modern slasher flicks, you will without a doubt like
this movie. Do not miss this one.

Oh where do I start? We get intestines, impalements,
decapitations, a head split in half, and the list
goes on and on.

The theme melody definitely reminded of the Candyman
theme, which I loved, so this theme definitely got
two thumbs up. We also get some good pop music.

This is what I call a good time! Dark Ride is a fun
and gory slasher flick which has fun with the clichés.
I'll admit that my expectations were high when I started
watching this movie but I'm happy to say that this
did not let me down. If you enjoy mainstream slasher
flicks, you will without a doubt like this.
