A woman and her daughter moves into a new building.
Soon enough, water starts leaking in from their
ceiling but the thing is, no one lives in the apartment
above them. Where is the water coming from and what
mysteries hide in the building?

The Japanese original of Dark Water is a true classic
and if I were to rate it I would definitely give it a
5/5 rating. Naturally, ever since the success of The
Ring, the Americans have decided that every great
Asian horror movie ever made should be remade in
English. Well, while I didn't think that The Grudge and
The Ring surpassed the awesome originals, I still
thought that they were solid and good horror flicks.
This remake of Dark Water however is absolutely
terrible and is nothing like the original. All the
mystery and all the suspense is completely gone.
Instead of a creepy ghost story, we get a very slow
and very boring, yes, boring drama. Not at all like
the original where we were creeped out and sucked
in by the story from scene one. The directing feels
dead, I mean, there's no feeling behind the camera
at all. Hideo Nakata's excellent directing in the
original made the movie feel alive but this one just
drops dead. The acting is also stiff and unrealistic,
especially considering that this is a high budget
horror movie I think that you should be able to
expect a little bit more.
This movie has been finished for over a year now and
was due for release almost a year ago and I never did
understand why they kept changing the release date,
until now. I guess that the company realized that it
was nowhere near as strong as the other Asian horror
remakes of recent time. I'm shocked and disappointed
to see that it's actually possible to make a terrible
film like this out of a movie so brilliant and creepy
like the original. I just didn't see this one coming,
I didn't think it was possible to ruin such a solid
film like Dark Water, but I guess I was wrong.

No gore at all.

The soundtrack is dull just like the movie and never
creates any kind of atmosphere.

I'm disappointed to see that somehow they managed to
ruin a perfectly good movie so badly. They've removed
everything creepy about the original and made it a
long and drawn out drama which feels not only unoriginal
but also very sloppy. The production of this movie
must have been rushed or the result would have
probably came out so much better than this.
