A bunch of men
participate in an experiment, no one knows anything
about it except that it's going to last for two weeks. When the
experiment starts, people are randomly selected if they should be
playing prison guard or prisoner. They are not allowed to hit
anyone, if they do, they will get thrown out of the experiment without
any money. But something snaps inside the guard's heads and the
whole experiment gets way out of control.

When I first heard about this, I was very sceptical, as most reviewers
added that this was not a horror film... Well now that I've seen it, I
really can't agree on that, there is plenty of psychological horror in
here, not a lot of gore though, but a fair amount. The movie is really
very slow, it took me about 40-50 minutes before I started getting
interested, and that is not good. Still, the movie really started going
after that, if you can get pass the boring, dull and confusing first
40 minutes, then this is a brilliant movie.
The acting is
top notch, I didn't find any of the acting bad. As all
prisoners get a number, we mainly follow number 77, as he is a secret
reporter and he's supposed to write an article on the experiment. He
tries everything to piss the guards off, just to test their limits,
unfortunately, everyone has to pay for what he does. Now to the directing,
so I know everyone thinks the directing in this movie is great, but
really, I think it was quite average, don't get me wrong, it was great,
but it wasn't anything spectacular that I haven’t seen before.
One thing that
I think is awesome is that this is exactly the kind of
movie that Hollywood would make a remake on, still, this did go on
cinemas in USA, but distributed by whom? Not a very wide release if you
ask me. The movie is rather disturbing and I don't think this is
suitable for people who aren't used to watching horror movies or really
powerful dramas. Hang on though, great movie, yes, but a movie that
shows how people can go crazy under certain circumstances? Have we
really not seen this before?

Mainly some blood splatter, nothing very special, this movie doesn't
work on a gore level, it works on a psychological level.

We don't get a lot of music in this movie, but when we do, I LOVE IT!
As usual, the Germans find the best matching soundtrack ever, including
Linkin Park, which surprised me, as I was hoping for some Rammstein.

This is a great rent if you're up for a slow psychological horror thriller.
Pretty disturbing so this is not the kind of film you watch on your
first date, I think this should be viewed in private as you really have
to follow the movie to a 100%. If you don't follow through the whole
slow beginning of the movie, then the rest might make no sense.
