Prang discovers
that she's pregnant and decides
to cheer up a bit by going to a haunted house to
take part in a ouija board summoning. Not a lot
happens except for that they get a name, Prang
likes the name and decides to name her daughter
the same name. As soon as the daughter is born
Prang starts realizing that something’s wrong,
her friends start to die and it seems as if her
daughter is somehow involved.

Thai horror movies are rarely good but there are
some exceptions, like 999-9999 and judging from
the cover art this looked pretty cool. It was not.
The plot is completely ludicrous. First of all
when the friends summon the spirit all they say
is basically "Spirit, come and move the glass"
and the glass moves. Second of all who names ones
daughter after the name that they got of a ouija
board? And while we're still on the subject of
the girl. We never get the impression of that the
woman is pregnant since she doesn't look pregnant
at all and all of a sudden her water breaks.
Then all of a sudden the movie jumps to seven years
later, not one week, not a month, but SEVEN years!
The thing I found strange here was that the woman
doesn't look a day older than before, she even has
the exact same haircut. To me that feels very
unrealistic. The acting is terrible and the
directing is even worse. DTV Thai horror flicks
all seem to have this weirdly good quality which
makes them look cheap. I don't know how to explain
but it's almost impossible not to think of the
camera, it almost feels as if you're behind the
camera constantly since there are many times that
the actors look directly into the camera by mistake.
I'm getting sick of these Thai ghost stories and
their pathetic attempts to rip off big Asian horror
flicks. The meant-to-be jump scenes are terrible
since the sound almost always comes a second after
you are supposed to jump. What is up with that?
And I don't know if it was just the DVD but some
scenes have really hollow sound along with pretty
jumpy picture so that it looks like the movie was
shot with an expensive webcam. Take my advice and
stay away from Thai DTV horror flicks, they're
rarely good, I am however looking forward to
seeing Shutter and Lizard Woman but until I get
my hands on those I will stay away from Thai
flicks for a while.

Some bloodsplatter but the gore is pretty much
absent despite the fact that we have a killer
girl roaming around with a big kitchen knife.

If you've seen some other Thai horror flick you
know what to expect. Nothing original at all
and not scary either.

The Daughter is yet another mind blowingly bad
Thai flick in the vein of Diecovery. I suggest
that you stay away from Thai DTV horror flicks
as they are rarely as good as their covers
make them out to be. If you're looking for a
good Asian horror flick, you've visited the
wrong country.
