A group of
students are invited by their teacher
to his cabin to earn some extra credits. Most of
them naturally want to spend the weekend in a
completely different way but they have no choice
but to come along. After a while however, the
students find themselves in a complex situation
as someone is killing them off one by one.

I should have known better than to check out a
horror flick from Maverick Entertainment. I mean,
their recent releases have been anything but top
notch. I couldn't even get past 30 minutes of their
tragic zombie flick "Zombie Night". The Dawn is
once again proof that Maverick should leave the
horror genre alone since it's not just a poor
horror flick, but it's also an insult to the
ghetto niche of the horror genre - and this genre
was pretty damn bad to begin with.
Heading into The Dawn I was expecting a zombie
flick since both the title and the cover copies
"Dawn Of The Dead". Well it is not and I'm still
not quite sure what this was. The movie starts out
with a class sitting in a class room discussing
various things. As soon as the class is dismissed
a girl finds a dead woman in the corridor and
everyone naturally takes a quick peek at the dead
woman before running away in disgust. None of them
seem very surprised though, not even the teacher,
so they pretty much just let the body lie there
and apart from in a few quick jokes, that scene is
never discussed again. So what was really the point
with the woman in the corridor since no one really
reflected on to what had actually happened with her.
Well, who knows? Nothing in this movie makes sense.
An hour later I still hadn't quite figured out what
the plot of this movie was, nor had I figured out
what the horror aspect of the movie was going to be.
After the movie had just hit the hour mark, the
first kill was finally made - naturally off screen
however and we get to see the victim lying dead on
the ground. This freaks all of the students out and
since it's in the middle of the night and the movie
was shot with a very bad camera, we have next to no
clue of what is going on. All of a sudden, most of
the students are dead and we are faced with some
very strange twist ending.
I just feel ripped off in so many ways. This movie
didn't have anything going for it. The characters
are very stereotypical and I'm certain that some
people will end up feeling quite offended by this
movie. This was just one of those movies that didn't
have anything to say or deliver at all. It might
have had a cool cover but this was a really dull
experience, if even an experience at all.

Some guts but most of the gore is too hard to see
since the lighting is so bad.

The worst thing about this movie was definitely the
repetitive and annoying score which consisted of
about 5 cheaply made, 10 seconds long, instrumental
hip hop loops that were played constantly for 5-10
minutes before changing into a new loop. Awful!

Maverick Entertainment seriously needs to step up
their game since they won't last long with abysmal
crap like this. Yeah, that's exactly what it is,
it's pure crap. If you thought that Zombie Night
was bad, just wait until you've seen The Dawn... or
better yet, don't! Avoid this nonsense.
