A small meteor
has just hit the earth and it seems
rather harmless. Just the usual old space rock. Or
so everyone thought. Soon enough, people start turning
into flesh-eating zombies and a group of survivors
with differing personalities find themselves trapped
inside an old bunker. With nowhere to go, the group
of people have to find a way to stop the zombie madness
before it's wiped out the entire human raise.

Normally I would stay away from cheap DTV zombie flicks
released by Lions Gate (I've learned my lesson) but
Days Of Darkness seemed to be something out of the
ordinary - and it was. Shot on 16mm, director Jake
Kennedy is well aware of his limitations and proves
that you don't need a high budget to make a decent
zombie flick - even if Days Of Darkness technically
isn't a zombie movie. Imagine Dawn Of The Dead meets
The Body Snatchers and you have Days Of Darkness, and
it's actually a pretty neat concept. Once you've
gotten sick of watching zombie-action, you find out
about the things growing inside of the zombies and
you're more intrigued than ever - and grossed out.
So far I haven't seen a single body snatcher-like
movie that's actually managed to haunt me but Days
Of Darkness did. Man I would just freak out if I knew
that one of these things were living inside of me.
I wouldn't want to stay alive, I'd grab the closest
gun and shoot my brains out. The movie revolves around
a group of random people who have secured themselves
inside an old bunker while the rest of the world has
been contaminated by the zombie-like infection caused
by a meteor that's recently crashed into the earth.
It turns out that the comet brought something with it,
something extremely disgusting that may wipe out the
human raise as we know it.
The concept may not feel all that fresh and the fact
that the entire movie takes place inside a bunker
drags the movie down a bit as well but it's got a
decent pace and you never lose interest in the plot.
It's difficult to make a good zombie flick these
days without turning it into a zomedy and these guys
have actually managed to pull it off. With a higher
budget I'm sure that Days Of Darkness could have been
something great but the sad truth is that even though
they did the absolute best of their situation, the
limitations still do work against the movie and when
the movie ended I didn't feel very convinced. It's a
decent zombie flick and for a DTV zombie movie that's
a whole lot better than I'm used to so if you're
looking for a good zombie movie, you may want to give
this one a spin. It's not the best movie in the world
and it probably won't stay with me for long but it
was fun while it lasted.

We get a severed penis, some fingers cut off,
a hand chopped off, some gory autopsies and
lots of blood splatter.

This was one of the movies weaker spots. The soundtrack
was flat and failed to create a good atmosphere, it
should have been more adrenaline-filled but instead
it was calm and soothing for most of the time.

Surprisingly decent zombie flick with a twist that
may or may not have been done before. Either way,
being a DTV zombie flick, this was a pleasant surprise
and if you're in the mood for a stellar zombie movie,
you may want to check this one out. Don't expect
anything great though, it's only decent.
