"Very slow, very dull and very dumb"

A couple of teens on a ferry come face to face with
terror when they find a portable, electronic game of
some sort. At first the game seems like a lot of fun
as they can make things appear and disappear with it,
but they're about to find out just how deadly this
game can be.

It's not very often that I order a bunch of Japanese
horror flicks that I've never heard of before but
there was something about the cover for Twilight
Syndrome: Dead Cruise that enticed me and after having
seen the trailer I was sold. A slasher flick set on
a ferry - count me in. Unfortunately that's not quite
the case with Dead Cruise - which is apparently based
on a manga by the way - as this is not a slasher movie
at all. The story is very strange and not very well
put together. It reeks of low budget (most likely shot
on HD), the blood is way too red and there's not
enough focus on the horror aspect of the movie.

Six friends on a ferry ride find a mysterious gameboy
that seems to be able to do magic tricks. The game
controls what happens in reality. The game soon falls
in the wrong hands and takes a deadly turn. Soon the
ship is crawling with zombie-like men with black and
white faces that are trying to kill the teenagers.
We also have a monster of some sort in here. Anyway,
Twilight Syndrome: Dead Cruise is one of those mangas
that simply do not work as a feature film. In fact,
very few mangas do and there's a reason why most of
you probably have never heard about this one.

Clocking in at 80 minutes, Twilight Syndrome: Dead
Cruise is very slow, very dull and very dumb. It's
one of those movies that could only have been made in
Japan because it makes no sense to the rest of the
world. There are some decent death scenes to be found
in here but overall I was pretty miserable having
to sit through this mess - and I was even more
miserable about having paid 40 dollars for the DVD.
Don't trust the trailer or the artwork, Dead Cruise
is not the cool slasher flick that it looks to be
and if anyone still wants to see it I'd be glad to
send them my copy as I wouldn't dream of putting this
in my DVD shelf. If I were you, I'd simply stay clear
of this one though, unless you're a very big fan of
the original mangas that this was based on.

Very fake blood that is way too red. We get some
stabbings, arms ripped off and a pretty cool impalement
but certainly nothing to write home about.

Cheap score which was probably composed by one of the
cast members. Very amateurish.

What a disappointment this was, Dead Cruise hasn't
got any real redeeming factors about it. It's a
complete waste of space. I'm even on the fence with
calling this a horror flick. Only for J-horror freaks
that love strange stuff that doesn't make sense.
