The orphaned children of a man is summoned to collect their
part of the heritage after he recently passed away. Most of
the siblings have never met before and as they are all very
different characters, it's not the perfect mix. In order to
get their share of the heritage, the teens have to stick
around for a while, doing weird ritualistic things with their
dead father. It all seems very odd at first but as even
stranger things start happening around the big mansion, doing
ritualistic things with their father didn't seem all that
bad anymore. The number of siblings quickly decreases as
people start disappearing and it's up to the ones who's left
to figure out who or what is causing this.

The Death Curse is the new Hong Kong cinema hit. You can tell
that its budget was higher than most Hong Kong movies instantly.
As you can tell by the poster, this is not a horrormovie to
be taken very seriously. I have to confess that I really never
managed to get what this movie was about but I did find myself
jumping and laughing every now and then so when I finished
watching this movie I still felt very good and I didn't consider
it to be a waste of time.
Pou-Soi Cheang continues his carrier in a somewhat disappointing
way. I loved his previous film New Blood and this just didn't
manage to keep the high standards of that movie, though you can
see some resemblances between the two movies. The directing is
good though and it serves its purpose well. The acting is also
good and if you watch a lot of Hong Kong movies you might be
able to recognize a few of the faces in here, at least I did.
This movie does have some potential, I'll agree to that, for
example, I simply loved the swamp scene. What somewhat
destroyed this movie for me was the fact that they brought
in too much stupid brainless humor and I also think that
they should have stuck with the ghost scenario instead of
making it into another Scream rip-off. You can almost say
that this is Hong Kong’s answer to Gawi (Horror Game Movie)
as they both have quite similar scenarios. This was far from
as good though.

Some bloodsplatter, more bloodsplatter, and finally some more
bloodsplatter. Nothing very disturbing except from the annoying
little girl who screams mommy mommy all the time, that
disturbed me a lot but in a completely different meaning of words.

This is the classical Asian horror comedy soundtrack with some
congas and some cheesy calypso music which I despise so much.
In other words, I did not like this soundtrack.

If you're looking for an Asian horror comedy I see no reason to
why you shouldn't go see this but I've never been a big fan
of the horror comedy concept. Beware though, this movie has
a story that seems to lead nowhere and that might make you
want to shut it off more than a couple of times.
